Hey Scotty!
I recently got a great deal on a 2011 GS 350 with 80,000 miles. I’m getting ready to move to a new job, and I wanted to ask about Lexus’ servicing at the dealerships.
I know people like having their Lexus’ serviced at dealerships, and so I wanted to ask if that would be a good option rather than hunting around for a reliable/experienced mechanic in my new town.
What do you think? I want to take care of this car for a long time, I love it.
The dealerships do excellent work. For many, it is worth the price....especially if you don't have a good independent mechanic.
That said, it is pricey. It's up to you how to spend your money. If I had a new Lexus, I'd get it serviced at the dealer.
That’s good to know, thanks for the info! I will probably go with the dealership then until I find a good, experienced mechanic. Even then, I might stick with the dealership if I have a good experience!
Thank you.
You're welcome. Enjoy the car!
Thank you! 🙂
Whether it is a Lexus Dealership or any dealership really. A dealer is a dealer. Toyota/Lexus dealers do good work, but are bit pricey, that is why they are called stealerships.
I usually go to dealers if they have deals and online specials. Usually that is oil changes. They use oil changes as a loss leader, to get you in.
And they will tell me what I need to get done, I sit on it but ask around from friends or forums (or my own best judgment from experience) if it is legit or not. If it is legit, I get quotes from Indy mechanics I know, get quotes from several dealers, and quote it out myself to see if I can handle the job.
My most recent experience at the dealer was an oil change for a Prius. But they said I needed front and rear brakes done. I already knew it was time for brakes. They quoted me an astronomical price for the brakes.
But I countered with I deal for front brakes on the dealer website which was comparable to an Indy shop. Always check the website for deals.
Additionally I asked if they can do the rear brakes for the same price as the front, they could do it, otherwise I’ll pass this time. They went to the manager and it was approved! They could do the rears for the same price as the front.
All prices are negotiable.
About those online specials, good to know! I’ll keep that in mind as I search for a good mechanic. I’m moving to northern Indy actually, do you know any good ones up there?
