Car has 125,xxx miles on it, transmission has never been serviced, still shifts ok,  Should I service this transmission?   I would hate for it to stop shifting, car would not be worth replacing a trans, and don't have the resources to buy a replacement car.

Many thanks in advanced

of course

Thanks for the quick response, I have always heard that high miles vehicle with old dirty fluid once changed it starts slipping or quits pulling due to pressures changing.

1. You have a CVT. The tales you hear apply to conventional automatics
2. You don't have that many miles on it
3. the stories are very exaggerated
4. If you don't change the fluid then it will definitely fail

Interesting, these often were equipped with the JF015E - the worst of the worst.

What's even more interesting is that yours is pre-2015 when it was improved.

It's very rare to see them survive the extended warranty period without a major breakdown.

It's almost currently on it's last legs, but as far as the fluid:

If you won't change the fluid, it would likely fail just from the added friction.

Changing the fluid would require the transmission to re-adjust and this may cause additional issues, although that's rare to see on a CVT.

car would not be worth replacing a trans, and don't have the resources to buy a replacement car

The used car market is currently very hot, You might be able to get a lot for your car and only add a bit to upgrade to an older Toyota / Honda.
