2013 Civic Compression Results 230

2013 civic lx, 150k miles, automatic, not cvt

Recently did a compression test, took all plugs out. Disconnected coil packs and removed fuel pump fuse. 

All cylinders were just about the same.

All about 225-230psi

I have never seen a engine this high is that normal? My engine is a 1.8 and has been running fine.

Those products are all snake oil. 

It depends on where you drive, do you drive in city traffic or on the highway... every time you shut off your car, the oil pump loses all pressure and the oil falls back into the sump. That's why Scotty doesn't recommend vehicles with stop-start technology. When you start the car again, the oil pump needs to build up pressure again. 90% of the wear in your engine occurs through metal-on-metal contact while the oil pump builds pressure back up. Until the oil pump builds up sufficient pressure, there's only residual oil film from the previous starting.

Scotty doesn't answer follow-up questions. The engine is starting to wear a little bit, like he said, your piston rings are starting to wear out, but it's still an acceptable rating. Anything above 80% when doing a leakdown test is still acceptable. You have 83%. 

If you google leakdown test results, it'll bring them up for you.

About how long would you expect this engine to last? If a daily driver.

Also I am due for an oil change. Should I put a oil additive for the piston rings?

I am not sure if it has a leak, but if it doesn't. Then I burned half a quart of oil in like 100 hours of driving.

It does sound high but look up the specifications for that engine. Also, carbon buildup can increase compression. However I'd probably repeat the test with a different gauge in case the one you used is out of calibration.

Aloha I looked online haven't been able to find yet info from a manual

But just used a different compression tester came out the same

I have a 2013 civic. 145k miles. Automatic

1.8 engine

Compression test with 4 revolutions came to about 190 psi each cylinder

When I keep up the revolutions until guage doesn't go up anymore. It comes to about 225 each cylinder 

When I put oil in spark plug hole then crank 4 times I get a 245 reading on all cylinders

When I crank until doesn't go higher, with oil in it I get about a 270 reading on all. 

 

How do these readings look I thought initially you just keep cranking till guage doesn't go higher, that's what I've always done. But someone told me only like 4 revolutions. 

So why would some cars let me crank till guage doesn't go higher anymore, and turn out a correct reading and some cars if I keep cranking it goes really high, but if I do 4 cranks reading seems fine?

No, your engine's still in pretty good shape for that age. Of course the piston rings are going to be somewhat worn at that age, but those are still good ratings
