2018 Hyundai Sonata, No Engine Immobilizer

Hey Scott, firstly thank you for imparting so much valuable knowledge and experience so freely, we all really appreciate it. (And/or hello and thanks to any mods reading this, don't know how the question screening works, this is my first post.)

So last year I bought a gently used 2018 Sonata SE, first car I've bought in 13 years so I've been enjoying the upgrade. Now I read about a wave of delinquents stealing these cars for fun, because apparently Hyundai didn't see fit to install engine immobilizers in them and all the little punks need is a USB cable to start them up.

I live in a newly developed area that's just a couple miles from a pretty rough trailer park. We've had lots of vandalism and trouble with the kids from said park, including them messing with people's cars.

Is it a good idea to buy an aftermarket immobilizer? Do you (or whomever) have any experience/preference with such devices? Thanks in advance for reading.

The problem when you start adding aftermarket gadgetry to modern cars' complex computer electrical systems is you wind up with situations like this reported recently by another user here:

Maybe just pull the fuse for your fuel pump?

Thanks to both of you for responding, I appreciate it! Not sure yet what I'll do, but yes good point about problematic integration of aftermarket parts. Thanks again.

Another option is a kill switch. I don't have them on my daily driver, but do have it on my more expensive cars. What's important is someone doing it who really knows what they are doing so they don't mess up with the wiring etc.
