So it took my van 2022 Sienna limited because of a check engine light and evap codes came up. They said it has a bad ecu and is not covered by warranty because they think i was in a front end collison. I was not, now they said they traced it back to 2 parking senors that shorted the ecu. I did change my grille from limited to xse grille. But i had non problems. My van has 9k miles. Now it gets more complicated, the left driver parking sensor has always been giving me problems even before the grille change, it thinks someone is there and it will phantom brake. And i was rear ended and body shop replaced trunk lip and rear sensors and some other things in the rear. Any advice would be aprreiceated. Should i take it to another toyota? The ecu job is about 1800. Not sure yet about the sensor job.

you have collisions and modifications. You will have to eat the cost. EVAP stuff is in the rear not the front. A likely candidate for damage in a rear end collision.

Do you have the exact code that was thrown. Personally something sounds fishy. It sounds like the dealership is trying to scam you. You can  take it to a private shop and have them do a diagnostic . If what they said is true and dealer won't cover it file complaints, contact corporate and over all raise some hell till they cover it.

What they are saying is that the who ever changed the grille did a bad job on putting in the sensors and messed up the wiring because they glued on the sensors. But toyota and lexus sensors are always permanently put on, there is no other way to put it. They traced rhe short to the 2 sensors. They said it fried the ecu…

Late last night I was pulling up some info on your car to double check a few things and to refresh my memory. It looks like the  parking sensors have there own independent computer which is independent from the ecu that isn't part of the other systems. It looks like there is 2 or 3 computers (ecus). I reached out to someone who used to be a Toyota mechanic and asked about the parking sensors and the ecus and what is responsible for what.. He said he will get back to me later tonight . By the way What code did the car have for the evap, as mountain man Joe said evap is probably caused by the rear end accident. It's possible  the canister, fuel tank or one of the lines was damaged or had a very tiny leak causing the code. Or it can just be a bad fuel cap, if it cap less the fuse can be blown or Valve went bad.
