Scotty, my stepson purchased a used 2012 Hyundai accent with 130000 kilometers last summer. It was from our local garage, previously owned by a senior citizen who had it serviced at the Hyundai delearship for the first five years, then only with this garage. He drove it without issue until a week ago, my stepson was going to his jobsite when the car started to shudder violently at a stoplight, then would hardly accelerate. After a scan, the verdict was a bad fuel injector. They recommended all 4 injectors be done, a flush of the fuel rail and an oil change. The bill came to 2000$ ! We have three other hyundais in the family, another Accent, an Elantra of a similar age and a 2018 Tucson. I know they don't have the reliability of a Toyota, but is this a known weakness with Hyundais ? If so, would an injector clean avoid or, at least, put off such an expensive repair for the other siblings ?
Your fuel injectors don't need any maintenance. Giving the shop the benefit of the doubt and accepting your stepson did indeed have a bad injector, that was no reason to inflate the repair like that.
The problem was they had to remove the fuel rail to replace 1 faulty injector (probably defective not clogged) and they decided to screw him for a service he didn't need.
That fuel rail on his Accent is easy to remove, and parts + labor should have been around $300.
