I have a 1995 Nissan Hardbody, 5 speed, 2.4L, 4 cyl., bout 175,000 miles, check engine light comes on every now and then but don’t have scanner to check the code. Occasionally, I have some trouble puttin the shifter into 1st gear but can get it in without forcin it by puttin it into another gear, typically by 2nd gear. I haven’t done anything about it because I don’t know anythin goin bout fixin anythin tranny related, and was hopin to find some answers here. This is also the first vehicle I’ve ever gotten a manual trans and not sure if the clickin sounds when I shake the shifter in neutral is normal. Thanks in advance.

You probably just need to lengthen the clutch pedal push rod to insure disengagement and check the clutch master cylinder fluid.

The vehicle uses heavy weight gear oil.  Find the filler plug and remove it first.  Remove the drain plug, let it drain then reinstall the drain plug.  Add gear oil to the filler plug very slowly (it's thick) until gear oil starts dripping out of the filler plug, then install the filler plug.  You're done.  Gear oil is GL4 grade, 75w90 weight.
