Misfire, knocking

I have a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe XL , it started misfiring and making alot of loud repetitive knocking , I replaced the spark plugs and that didnt work , so brought it to a mechanic that said it is most likely the Timing chain tensioners , he said it was a big job where you have to remove engine and it was going to cost close to $3000 CAD , he said it's better to get rid of the car if I can , as it has 240,000 km on it and it's a Hyundai . What do you think ? And are Hyundai's known for this problem ? I thought a timing chain was way better then a belt but it turns out it is only as good as the tensioner springs it has .

At 240,000 km (or 149,000 miles), this vehicle is beyond its useful life.  I would not throw good money after bad, and unfortunately for Hyundai Motor Group products, they are not made to last.  After all these years they still don’t know how to make a reliable engine, and many engine builders refuse to rebuild their engines.

They are known for that and with that mileage it's probably on his last legs. Anyways, I ditch you and get a Toyota

Have your mechanic put a junkyard engine in it and then sell it. It's worth nothing right now. Ask you mechanic how much he will give you for it.

It's a Hyundai. I rest my case.
