[Solved] Kia Sportage 2012. Engine knocking, Kia is replacing engine on goodwill, NOT the extended warranty via ECU update

Hi Scotty!

2012 Kia Sportage AWD

120,000 miles

Automatic

Going down highway and engine started knocking, knew Kia's were crap but I figured I had more time because I babied the thing. I knew that I went in for their ECU software update recall back in may, 2021 and under that recall update they provide a 10 year/150,000 warranty for long block damage caused by connecting rod. I took it to the Kia dealer and explained the warranty and they said they would diagnose and get back to me. I just got called today and they were replacing the engine under good will, NOT the warranty. I'm grateful to get a new engine but now I'm worried that they won't properly fix it and I'll be back at square one WITHOUT any warranty to back me up. Should I sell the thing even in this crazy used car mania or keep the car and hope for the best? Thank you.

I would get rid of that car, not only because of the engine but because the next thing could be transmission and so many other things.

I would get rid of it and never buy another Hyundai Motor Group product again.  Hyundai/Kia stories like this are a constant on this forum.

You can bet that "goodwill" repair will be done as cheaply as possible. It would not surprise me if they install a junkyard engine. Get rid of that thing as soon as it's repaired before something else big goes wrong with it - and don't buy any more Hyundai/Kia products.
