Hey guys, I just bought a Lexus RX330 2006 AWD automatic at 108k miles. Smoke was coming out of the engine right after service at Lexus. I took the car back to them again and they are suggesting a front differential replacement. Please suggest if I should take it to a local mechanic because the dealership quoted $5100 for the repair. I have no clue what do now.
- Seems like more than a coincidence you saw the smoke right when you got it back with them I would assume they broke the seal then the fluid leaked out from the transmission I might hire a lawyer for that one
Thank you for the reply. I'm in no position to sue them honestly. Just a student here. Trying to set my life up. I'll just go to a local mechanic at this point honestly. I'm from RI.
You are obviously not interested in answering the question. There is no such thing as a "general service." One more time - What EXACTLY was the car taken in for in the first place and what was done to it? This is my last attempt.
Exactly what service was performed at the Lexus dealership?
I'm trying to attach a picture of the service document here. But can't seem to find a way. Putting a link to show the service document from the dealership. Check out what they said please.
I don't want the service document. I asked what service the car went in for. Did Lexus change to front differential fluid? Did you go in for a tune up? Why did you take it to the dealer in the first place?
It went for a service and a few days later the car started smoking. I took it back to them again. They found the leakage. They are now suggesting a complete part replacement for $5100. I put document anyways. Adds more information to the thread.
EXACTLY what services. No one is going to be able to help you without specific information about what was done to the car at the dealership.
It just went for a regular general inspection and maintenance first. Then when I started facing problems after seeing the engine smoke. I sent it back for a check up again. I'm no car expert. Don't exactly understand what you mean by what services. I can tell you what happened though.
Let me see if I can help here. Based on that service document, it appears OP went in for a routine engine oil change (including topping off of fluids and tire rotation). Lexus also did a floor mat inspection (not sure why).
Good Luck DayWalker. Maybe your fuse is longer than mine.
Before you bought the Lexus, did you have an independent, honest mechanic thoroughly check it out? If not, this is always why we recommend to have it inspected before you buy. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if there was already an impending issue before you took the vehicle in to the dealer for a routine oil change/fluid top off/tire rotation or if the dealer did something, and it’s going to be tough to prove in court (that Scotty was suggesting). I would have an independent mechanic you trust (and familiar with Toyota’s/Lexus) look at it and see what he quotes. He may also see clues that might shed more light on what happened.
Go ahead and pay them the $5100 to fix it. You deserve to get screwed anyway.
