Hi. First question here. Love the channel. I just bought a used 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth (manual) with 70,988 miles on it from a car dealer in Mass for $11.5K. That was the price after my trade-in. I traded in my old Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2011 which had maybe 120,000 miles on it and got 2800 for it in trade-in value. The price, before trade-in value was 13,991. I thought this was high but I'm not an expert on purchasing used cars and it seemed like there weren't a lot of used Abarths in my area when I was looking for a car. I know a lot of prices have gone up recently on used cars and lots of other things but I've heard of lots of people getting Abarths for under $10,000. I love the car though. Had some difficulty getting it registered as someone I took it to said that it was "missing a muffler" and wouldn't pass it. I tried to tell him that that's how all Abarths are but he didn't listen. Had to take it somewhere else and they passed it.
My question is this: Did I pay a fair price for this car? Thanks.
Dealerships are always overpriced. And you know FIAT is called Fix It Again Tony; so yes overpriced and not worth for that endless money pit.
Check kbb.com or edmunds.com to get an idea of typical pricing.
Hopefully you've set aside money for repairs.
I am planning to put some money into it. I have some I can use. I don't know that much about maintaining a car. Was going to change the oil and maybe add some aftermarket parts like a cold air intake, a new exhaust system (not going to do that myself though, would not know where to start), change the spark plugs, swap out engine coils for nicer ones, and add some exterior decorative stuff. The kbb.com value definitely tells me that its current value is way below what I paid. Hmm, that's pretty disappointing.
Their market value is low for a reason. Good luck.
- I personally would have stuck with the Mazda
