I’m a longtime fan, love your work. Thanks very much. I’m trying to decide on a vehicle to buy that helps us drive down the road. My wife and I are 70s we like to take trips and it’s easy when a car has lane assist lane follow it’s less fatigue to drive eight hours with a vehicle that helps steer. Our 2013 Toyota Camry we’ve had for eight years doesn’t do that. What kind of a car would you recommend? Thank you very much in advance for your answer again I appreciate your work very much. Thank you. Mike G

Wouldn't a new Camry have that feature?

Yes! I absolutely love this feature on my cars.

It's worth saying that besides the fact that some cars do it better than others,

different cars allow the system to operate at different times,

different cars have different levels of assistance,

and different cars have different additional features integrated into it.

Overall, I think I'd recommend going with Toyota on the US market.

But note that different Toyotas come with different systems.

As far as cars that are available with the latest and greatest tech,

The Mobileye Q4 also known as Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 -

I'd recommend the 2024 Prius (it's beautiful, fast, elegant and reliable)

But note that the Toyota Safety Sense system on most cars only lane trace when in adaptive cruise control - which I personally found to be a huge annoyance.

And there are MUCH better systems, on much less reliable cars.

When evaluating a car, also consider how difficult it is to engage / disengage the LTA system and how clear is it what the car's doing.

For example, on one of my cars it's hidden in a menu on the main screen, while on the other it's a button on the wheel. On one it's clear when the car is tracing the lane and when it's not recognizing the road making, while on the other it's a small little logo - I recommend inspecting the gauge cluster safety system's UI/UX design closely before purchase.

The new Camry has an older Safety Sense 2.5 system that doesn't perform nearly as well as others and as newer Toyota models. For instance as far as I remember the older version doesn't avoid obstacles and doesn't slow down before turns.

I think the Toyota XLE trims and up will have lane assist and adaptive cruise control. At least that is a place to start.

I think adaptive cruise control is pretty good. Lane assist still gives me hesitation.
