Toyota Camry 2007 - Sell it?

Scotty, I have a 2007 Toyota Camry with 125,000 miles, 4 cylinder, Automatic Trans. I maintain it with the help of a local car mechanic. The only major maintenance issue I have had recently has been the alternator - I had to change it out because it started making interesting sounds (it was a 14 year old alternator!) so i installed a new OEM alternator.

I've been saving up money to buy a new/used Toyota Highlander 6 cylinder - but I am wondering if I should pull the trigger. My '07 Camry is phenomenal, but on the other hand - if I sold the camry during this volatile time we are in (and I think i could get a lot $$ for it) maybe I could get an even nicer/newer Highlander!

I would appreciate your insight - I enjoy driving around the Camry... but I also am craving something new...a classic keep/buy business case analysis!

My gut is telling me to just be content with the Camry!

The problem is that while you can get a higher price for your Camry, you're going to have to pay commensurately more for a Highlander and buying a used vehicle is always a risk. On the financial end get a quote from someplace like Carmax to get at least a rough idea of what you can get for your Camry, then take a look at what it will cost to buy a Highlander. I believe that even getting a good price for your Camry you'll be in for some sticker shock.

Frankly I think your gut is right. I wouldn't be in any hurry to get rid of a Camry that's in good condition.

Yes, you can get more $$ for the Camry right now, but you'll also pay more for whatever Highlander you go look at. Go with your gut and don't do anything and keep the Camry.

Craving something new is an emotional, not a rational decision.  All emotional decisions are wrong.

2007 Camry....Good car but don't expect to get more than $4,000 unless you get someone desperate or not knowledgeable. Usual dealer trade-ins will give you anywhere from $500 to $1,800. F.Y.I. If it's good, keep it and drive it to the ground or give to a loved one.
