Dear Scotty Kilmer,
I'm having trouble with the cargo light of my Toyota Vitz.
I've tried to replace the incandescent bulb with an LED type.
Suddenly there the light will not turn on. I've used a volt meter to determine that there is 12.39 volt reading on the volt meter.
When I insert the lamp back, no response. I've check both the lamps to see if it works straight on the battery. And they both do.
When I close the trunk, the ground is switched off. The continuity/ohm reads zero. When I switch back to reading the volts. the ground pin and a body ground reads 7.5 volts. The positive pin and a body ground reads 12.39.
When the trunk is open, I try the positive pin on an incandescent bulb and a body ground, no reaction.
I have not bring it to a mechanic yet.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Best regards,
Roy Cheung
Well if it worked before you probably got a bad replacement bulb and it's shorted out the computer module that ultimately turns it on it's not a good idea to swap things out unless you know the exact voltage of what you're taking out and what you're putting back in you can't just buy universal bulbs without knowing their voltage and amperage
Thank you for replying.
The replacement bulb (LED) is rated at 12 volts.
I have used the same replacement LED bulb on other interior lights before.
On the dash it shows when the trunk is open. The other interior lights go on if the trunk or door is open.
I have checked the fuses. None are shorted. (Can't find any fuse box in the cabin of the car though.)
I've double checked those two pins. When the trunk is closed. There are no volts between them. If one lead is on the positive pin and the other lead is on a body ground, I get 12.39 volts. If one lead is on the negative pin and the other lead is on a body ground, I get 7.5 volts.
Should I try to follow those two wires to see if they are damaged?
Best regards,
Roy Cheung
may I ask what country you are in? How did you get a Japanese Vitz?!
I'm from Suriname, South America
I'm going to ask an auto electrician tomorrow.
Can't solve the problem myself.
I will keep you guys posted what the results will be.
Cheers,
Roy Cheung
