So, like an idiot, I ran my car through flood water and got water in my transmission and didn't realize it was a big problem until I got back from a trip to south Texas near Brazoria and I drove from the Fort Worth area. I have a 2014 Honda Civic HF(their standard vehicle) with a cvt transmission. Was curious if there is a way to salvage the transmission or do I need to get it rebuilt/new transmission. If you can Scotty please reach out to me as soon as you can! You've been a big help with all of your car knowledge! Keep doing what your doing sir!
What everyone else said but adding to it is make sure electrical components are not damaged. Another issue with flood damaged cars is damage to electrical components which can end up costing more than transmission issues.
Unfortunately once water gets inside the transmission it's all over. It needs to be replaced but you should make sure there is no other expensive damage. (Don't want to spend thousands on a transmission then find out the car needs thousands in other repairs.)
Having a CVT may have actually saved your butt. The problem with water contamination is that it ruins clutch material, and CVTs do not have stacks of clutch packs like conventional automatics do.
It may be worth it completely flush out the transmission (and any cooling lines) with fresh fluid. Who knows ... maybe it could still last a while. Seems like you haven't got much to lose.
The mileage is at 171000 or so miles, so I don't know if that factors in or not.
