I have a 2019 Ford F-250 6.2L gas engine automatic transmission with 25k miles. I tow a 9k lb travel trailer into the Rockies 4-5 times/year, otherwise this is my daily driver. This is my first non-Honda/Toyota in 25 years and several Ford mechanics online stress the need to change transmission (and other) fluid sooner than mfg recommendations, including doing the first transmission fluid at 30k (some say yes, some say no to the filter at 30k). Question: Still being low milage, does it matter (i.e. will it hurt anything) if I take it to the dealer and get a full flush at 30k? Or should I stick with an "exchange only" with/without the filter, like many here have recommended? Being a Ford, I want to get my preventative maintenance off to a good start in hopes I can squeeze 200k out of this expensive truck.
With such low mileage, a drain + fill is typically all you would need. But that's all going to depend on what the pan looks like when it comes off.
You will get a variety of opinions re your question. My opinion solely, since the car is practically new, do a full fluid exchange plus the filter. I have a 2008 Impala and I’ve flushed it every 50k miles and now has 200,000 miles. You might find down the road that your car jumps or bucks, but lots of these transmissions have solenoid issues and from time to time it happens. I always ask my mechanic to look at the fluid when it comes out. Do you see any metal, if not I continue to flush it and that’s where I am today. Use full synthetic transmission fluid, it helps dissipate.....
I go by what Scotty says. Always do a drain and pour. Never flush.
