Hello, I have a 2010 Ford Ranger RWD with the 4.0L. It had an uncomfortable vibration in the cab/steering wheel that started at 55-60 mph. I took it to get the tires balanced (all 4) and that eliminated about 90 percent of that vibration but there still is some. It's not a terrible vibration but I still want the truck to drive more smoothly. What else could be causing the vibration? It's mostly in the steering wheel.
It might be a slightly bent wheel. You could try putting the front wheels on the back and back wheels on the front. If nothing changes you can start looking for a bigger problem.
Your front shocks may be worn out too.
Does the whole truck still shack?
I used to be able to feel it in the seat before I got them balanced, Now its severely reduced . I feel it mostly in the steering wheel, but I can still see the vibrations in the hood and stuff. The tires look fairly new. Still have lots of tread left on them.
Have the front lineman checked, it could be as much as out of line, and jack up the front and see if you can feel any play in the front tires. If it’s not any of that, the small weights that are on your rims could have flung off and make your steering shake. And check all the air pressures in all four, it could be as much as low air pressure that makes the whole truck shake.
now that you remind me, the alignment is definitely bad. the steering wheel is crooked when straight. ill check those things soon.
10-4, if you don’t mind, please let me know if that fixes it. And one more thing. That’s a rear wheel drive truck, if you have it aligned, do a 4 wheel inline ment
I have lifted the truck wiggled the front wheels a bit. Going from side to side yielded no movement but on the passenger front wheel, going from up to down with one hand on top of the tire and the other on the bottom resulted in very slight movement .I couldn't feel it but I could hear a slight "tapping" coming from the hub area. The driver front tire kind of did the same thing but it was very faint.
