VW CC cannot start

Hello!

Really need your help!

I bought a VW CC 2012 (2.0 TSI, 80,000 miles, 4 cylinder) a month ago at a relatively low price from my classmate, I really love it, it drives great! But when I bought the car, the car had been parked for almost 2 months without moving even once, that's because my classmate lives in DC, and she later found Metro is much better than driving in downtown DC.

So when I drove the car home that night, I already found the check engine light on, and later it showed "Low Oil Pressure, Engine Off" sign. So I thought that may be due to the engine oil change issue, so I brought the car for an oil change next day, and luckily, the engine light disappeared.

In the next two weeks, I really enjoyed driving the car, everything is perfect until a check engine light on again. I scanned with OBD, and found P0016 (correlation crankshaft...), but the car was still driving good except it took one second longer before it starts than before (maybe some rough idle).

So I later brought my car to a mechanic, they were also confused, because the car ran great, they checked the camshaft sensor, solenoid, all good, they saw some oil spray on the engine (to me, it is quite dirty) but they thought that was not oil leak. So they finally told me the problem may be the previous owner did not change the oil timely, the fuel filter may be clogged, things will get better if I just change engine oil more frequently in the future.

HOWEVER, when I brought the car back home, which is just 2 miles away, I started to hear loud noise which I never heard before, the sound seems came underneath the car and also the engine. So I parked the car on my drive way, since then it never started again. It cranks but not start.

I tried multiple ways but all failed and I am sure that it's not because a bad battery. Later, to my surprise, the HUGE RED sign of Low Oil Pressure came again, I ran the OBD, besides the P0016, more codes now, mostly are about cylinder misfire.

I checked the engine oil myself with the dipstick, and I found the oil is so dirty, and I checked the exhaust as Scotty shows in his video, and I really think there is some oil burn issue as the exhaust is so dirty. So, I added 3 quarters of 5W-40 (did not change the filter), but the red signs still there.

Here is something about me: I am a full time student, I do know that maintaining a German car can be expensive, but I don't drive a lot, and I drive conservatively, most importantly, my classmate sold it cheap to me, that's why I thought I could keep the car. But now, I am quite concerned. I don't want to bring the car to the mechanic, as they told me that can be very pricey to check the engine which I cannot afford.

Everyone, please let me know what the problem may be, and what I can do, change the oil filter? Or any other work which does not cost me much. Many thanks!

If it really was driven around for any length of time with oil very low (it took 3 quarts!) and low oil pressure, the engine is toast. If the engine is making loud knocking noises chances are that the bearings are worn and the engine is basically junk.

As far as the issue of not starting see the FAQ for information on diagnosing a no-start condition. Once you get it started you'll want to listen for any bad noises and verify the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.

It does not sound good for that engine but it needs more diagnosis before concluding the worst.
