| ... purchase in the past? If it's a 2013, it should have been changed around 2018. If it wasn't and you just changed the atf, it may be slipping and contributing to the rough idle. Was the vehicle idling rough and giving you problems prior to the atf change? Other things I'd look at include bad battery/alternator, ignition coil pack failing, slipping transmission after changing, torque convertor issue. If you're out of your depth, you should just send the car in to have a proper investigation | |||||

| ... dollar maintenance question I'm pondering, based on other Scott's reviews of transmission fluid change...should I change that transmission fluid. On the one hand, its still a dark maroon color so it appears fine (not brown or burnt). On the other hand, it seems like there is either metal shavings within the fluid, or the dipstick is leaving remnants of metal color on the paper towel with the transmission fluid. I'm in that 'tweener' state of choice, it should have been changed by now (it hasn't been, via the owner) but it still may be okay to change to incr ... | |||||

| ... first trans fluid change. Do you think its ok to change the trans fluid (not flush) now? If yes, what is the best fluid for that vehicle ? Also, I imagine there is a filter as well, if so should I do that as well? Also, have 2012 Chevy Cruze RS, automatic, 128,000 mile. smaller motor turbo. Bought vehicle last year (at 108,000 miles) and not sure if trans fluid was ever changed, however, its shifting hard and the dealer stated the trans needs to be replaced. I asked what was wrong with the trans as I have a warranty and they cover alot of components. ... | |||||

| Congrats! You should add your 4R onto a personal CarFax account (in your garage, then check maintenance history) and also add it to your Toyota Owners account (you can see Toyota's service history). Checking those Toyota details will often tell a different story than the CarFax. Regular Drain and fills with atf-WS, like recommended already, are always better than no action. In a way, I think regular refreshes are better than a powered-flush of any system. There's always a risk of blowing a seal out, weakening a connector or loosening debris that screws somet ... | |||||

| Hi everyone! i recently bought a Toyota Corolla AT 2013 that's almost hitting 40.000 km, do you recommend to change fluids? the car has all original fluids, so i'm wondering if it would be good to change coolant, atf, brakes. I don't know if they wear out with time (not only mileage). Thanks! | |||||

| If you do decide to change it, save the old fluid in a clean container. If it starts acting up post the fluid change, drain the new fluid & refill with the old fluid. See here - Still, at this mileage, it would be a good idea to keep an eye out for a replacement tranny (reman/rebuilt with warranty). All the best! | |||||

| ... simple and cheap to do and you should always do it. If your car happens to be a “US domestic production” (aka Chinese spec) A32/A33 Passat (there are a lot of these in the US. The car was developed by Chinese SAIC and made in Tennessee so that they can avoid paying taxes) then on most of these, a transmission filter replacement might be too difficult and expensive to perform - in some cases it does require a full tear down. look how deep down in the transmission the filter is. both use Aisin, one uses the TF-80SC and the other a TF-60SN ser ... | |||||

| ... (general lubrication and conditioning of the seals, for example). Of course, you'll get a bit of a sense of how much metal is shed by looking at the kinds of filings on the magnetic tip of the drain plug. If they're fine in nature, that's probably OK. I wouldn't particularly worry about the color as a primary consideration after the change, as long as the consistency is good (not gummy, silmy, etc.) and the atf is not burnt or carries a disgusting odor. On my wife's Fit, doing a drain and fill is no more difficult than an oil change (because there is a di ... | |||||

| should I drain & refill my atf, even though it was flushed previously? Hi Scotty, this question is for my 2010 Toyota Sienna van. I went to Valvoline, and they offered to change my atf. They used some kind of thin tube that would turn black, then red, then black, and so forth. When I looked it up today, I came to find that this may have been a “flush” that they performed. About a day later, I’m 40 miles into having the new Valvoline MaxLife atf, and I notice that when I’m driving between 5 - 35 mph, the RPMs go up to about 3 or 4, then the RPM needle drops back down quickly and I feel a jerk or jolt. It didn’t do this again once I’d stopped by the grocery and was driving home after, but I’m wondering if draining out the MaxLife fluid, and refilling with Toyota’s own “ATF WS” will stop this issue. | |||||

| ... There has been very slight slipping of the car but besides that, the transmission responds adequately. I am planning to get the atf replaced as soon as possible to correct this issue. I wanted to ask the following: will changing the atf at this mileage cause more harm or should I go ahead and do it anyway (not sure if Lucas slip fix would help this issue)? I'd appreciate any advice on this situation, thanks. | |||||

| Hello, I was wondering if in my 2020 Camry 2.5l with the 8 speed I can use Dexron VI like Valvoline MaxLife atf Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid, or must I use the Toyota atf WS? It's about 2.3x less expensive on that jungle website. If it isn't ok, then I'll get the Toyota branded fluid. I know fluid cheap, transmission expensive. Just wanted to save a little if I could. Also, is there a recommended video showing how to do it on my car? | |||||
