| Consumer reports has reliability ratings for cars which are determined via annual surveys from their subscribers. Can this information be trusted, or should I take it with a grain of salt? I sometimes hear advice from others to look at Consumer reports reliability rating for cars before making my next purchase. Is that good advice? They don’t take sponsors so they should be legit, right? | |||||

| Almost thirty years ago, I sold Rainbow vacuum cleaners. I did it because they were flat out awesome, and they used water as a filter, the only one in the business. Consumer reports did a review of numerous vacuum cleaners, and rated rainbow the lowest because they said it did the worst at picking up dirt. What they did was, weigh the vacuum first, then pick up a bunch of the test material, and weigh it after. They were actually using talcom powder instead of dirt for the test. Very odd choice as I don't know many people that have talcom powder in their carpet. Although it is one of the few substances that does not adhere to water, so when the rainbow sucks it up, it spits it right back out into the air because it doesn't stick, and the rainbow weighed the same, and so they claimed it hadn't picked up anything. Consumer reports was sued for that, and they lost. As others have stated, they are obviously paid to slant their ratings to whoever pays them the most. | |||||

I know Dan you like to cite Consumer reports and there Tesla is consistently in the bottom half of the rankings. Only one of their 4 vehicles is recommended by Consumer reports and their reliability per Consumer reports (based on owner feedback) has been average. They only had 4 models to focus on and yet their reliability is not amongst the best or better than Toyota’s. | |||||

| My car was recently written off after an accident. I am looking for what car to get next. I feel that a minivan suits my needs best. Consumer reports suggests that the Sienna is the most reliable minivan. The second generation design works better for me due to a few details. Consumer reports says that the '04, '05, and '09 are their recommended years. I need AWD since it will be used primarily as a work vehicle in snowy Canada and occasionally taken on ski trips. I can't find any '09's in Canada with AWD. My friends say that anything much older is a bad purc ... | |||||

| $30k for a 2024 SUV. Third row seat mandatory | 44Relevance | 2 years ago | whatthirdrowsuv | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi everybody Im freaking out about getting a new car I think Ill end up making a first monthly payment on the loan from the bank before getting the car. I started out looking at Honda/Toyotas SUV and got set on Highlanders. It didnt even dawn on me I have 3 kids and that they deserve more that one row. When you look up Highlanders year by year theres always something to make me second guess buying one. I posted some of the bad reviews below thats just 2022 Highlander. 2018 and every other year has its own set of problems. Im thinking I should rethink my search here. I think I should get a 2024 with very little mileage and upgrade the base warranty if its worth it. I never had a warranty before but Ill see what an upgrade does and read the contract any advice on upgrading the factory warranty or leaving it as is. So Im looking at no Korean junk, No american junk, no CVT, non interference engine, no turbo/supercharger, I think that leaves 2024 Tiguan, 2024 Pathfinder, 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander (CVT tranny so thats off the list), Honda Pilot, Expedition, Dodge Durango. Its looking like the only 2024 I can get for the 30k firm price range is the Outlander or the Tiguan, the Outlander is outlandishly out of question because of the CVT. I dont care how cool it looks, its always finding a gear I dont how much better they have improved they are all junk. So its looking like Im stuck with the Tiguan 2024 and can use warrant if anything goes wrong and just get rid of it when the warrant goes out. This is instead of getting at 2022 Highlander or 2020 Highlander that is either out of warranty or will be very soon. I did find a 2022 Highlander at 14k miles which would leave coverage for powertrain 46000 more miles. i looked at tiguan junk. i think im going with honda pilot 2022 low miles. look for one made at end of year to get most of out warranty. please help i can cash app 5$ for good answers The front pumper and skid plate became loose which November 8, 2023 By Abdallah Hamey from Las vegas Owns this car I thought Toyota Highlander is one of the best cars on the market after I bought one cost me over $50,000 the recall on it and the performance is terrible and the recall on it the dealer does not know what to do and it’s been three months and they have not even contact me to fix the recall, putting myself and my family in danger because the dealer the Toyota dealer does not know how to fix a recall. I advise everyone to be careful buying TOYOTA. After 30 miles I have a headache from the noise and hard to walk from the cheap seats. $51,000 piece of junk. My Ford 4 wheel drive of 20 years has no road noise or wind noise with almost 200k miles. Show full review 2.0 Puckered Seats - No Dealer Support November 6, 2022 By JAD from Celina, TN Owns this car The only reason I give the Highlander any mark over 1 is because it seems to be solid and has a smooth ride. The downside is the second row leather seats have puckers in the leather, the dash cam does not work with Toyota's app, the financing was deceitful, and any support from the dealer, Cumberland Toyota, is non-existent. The dealer says the puckered seats are "within tolerance". I did not know there is a tolerance for puckered seats. In my opinion, a flawed product is a flawed product. The dealership and Toyota need to take responsibility and resolve the situation. The dealership has no idea how to correct the dash cam issue and is not even trying. Once I drove the Highlander off the lot, they've not contacted to resolve this issue. They should research it with Toyota and get it resolved but I little faith that they will. I could go on about other minor misunderstandings but I think you get the picture at this point. Show full review 2.0 2022 Highlander Poor Gas Mileage June 19, 2022 By Disappointed from Pflugerville Tx Owns this car Poor highway gas mileage. EPA is 29; getting 23.5 in econo mode. I realize I most likely won’t get 29 and expected closer to it than 23.5 which is only 2.5 over city miles. Getting 20.4 average in city according to display. EPA doesn’t test every model of car and largely relies on manufacturer testing and reporting to EPA. Manufacturer usually contracts with independent tester. Some fudging going on by Toyota? Could be issue with car. Taking it to dealership tomorrow. Was told by a service writer early on when I called the dealership to give the car some time over a span of 4or 5 gas fills so it could get used to my driving style. I find no reference to that in owners manual or on the net. Didn’t help. Show full review 3.0 Toyota Highlander 2022 September 11, 2023 By Eddie from Lakeland Florida Owns this car I have a problem with my Toyota Highlander 2022 that when I turn on the A/C with the windows closed, all the bad smell from outside on the street that is in the area enters inside, and I have the A/C window closed on the console so it does not suppose to enter the outside air to inside the vehicle. my mechanic told me on other vehicles has that problem with the recirculation actuator, but I took 3 times to the dealer and they said everything it’s ok 🤦♂️ Show full review 3.0 Too new for these issues. Please help me. September 7, 2023 By Frieda Byars from Anchorage, Alaska Owns this car I am a 75 year old person and I bought it because I thought it would be safe. After 1 year it starting to have issues. It is poorly made on the inside and now the AC hose has come off and you have to take the entire console off to get to it instead of a little side panel. Very inconvenient. The floors on the right side are soaked and it is too cold to dry,. I do not have a garage so have to purchase a small fan so no mold starts to grow. I Hope. I paid all my savings for that car and I did not even get a cd player in it and no one told me when I purchased it. I cannot afford to pay for play service. Toyota has only one place they repair cars in Anchorage and are booked solid and do not have loaners or rentals any more. Very inconvenient. I cannot afford to pay for a rent a car or taxi. It is getting cold out and I need to take my child to school and to home. I really need someone to help me. Online I see that very many people have this same issue so why is there not an easy fix or a recall? Please help. Show full review | |||||

| Hey Scotty, I love your videos and find myself agreeing with your philosophy. I’m also a fan of Consumer reports and see a lot of similarities in reports on Toyota reliability. The thing that puzzles me is that CR listed Chrysler as the car company with the overall lowest cost of car repairs. So what does that really mean? Do Chryslers need a lot of repairs but at low cost? If so, is it really fair to consider a car company unreliable when it’s overall repair bills are the lowest in the industry? Or does Consumer reports just have this wrong in your opin ... | |||||
