| Answer to: How can Chrysler’s be crappy when they have the lowest cost of ownership? | 29Relevance | 5 years ago | Whatchamacallit | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I am a subscriber to Consumer reports but question their rankings sometimes when it comes to cars. For example, for 2020 MY reliability brand ranking they listed Dodge as #8 and for 2021 MY #10, but I would never recommend their vehicles for anyone that is looking to keep for a long time and many, many years hassle-free. Now I realize not everyone buys cars by that criteria. But I would take Consumer reports rankings with a grain of salt. You are better off asking on this Forum about different cars. | |||||

| Check out That way, you can see what problems to check for. Consumer reports seems to like it, and the price isn't too far out of line. If you are shopping for a used car you might want to buy a Consumer reports subscription for a year. | |||||
| Problem car? Unable to find VIN info on free car history reports | 32Relevance | 2 years ago | CarNutty | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 1999 Lexus ES300 119,154 miles 6 cyl automatic I was trying to run a free car history report on carsforsale, but got a message that said "No information was found for this VIN." I'm thinking maybe the car is too old? Or is this a sign that something is wrong with the car; either it's stolen, modified illegally or has title problems. I'm just doing a precheck on cars, so I don't want to pay for any reports (like Carfax) until I'm serious about buying the car. The dealership for this car doesn't provide free Carfax reports for their cars. Can you recommend other websites that provide detailed free car history reports? | |||||

| ... stop there: add those 4 models’ numbers up and it easily trumps Tesla’s. And again, Teslas are only affordable now because of all their price cuts this year to boost weakening demand as well as the $7,500 credit from the IRA. BTW, all those price cuts have hurt Tesla vehicles resale values. . Teslas are rolling piles of that won’t hold up long. Even your beloved Consumer reports does not give favorable reliability ratings for Teslas. They give Model 3 average reliability and it’s the only Tesla they recommend. They don’t recommend the Y, S, or X. I only ... | |||||

| In the past they also top-rated the Fiat 128. Consumer reports is not an accurate source of reliability data. I knew a guy many years ago who calculated this out and bought a Chevette diesel. Probably not many of those left. These days it would probably be a Toyota Corolla. | |||||

| ... is a reliable source, Consumer reports tries to be honest but their predictions tends to be very inaccurate. Well, in NA there were never really any amazing minivans (like the Grand C4 SpaceTourer) And there aren't any efficient inexpensive SUVs that perform like Minivans (like the 2nd generation 5008) If you need the 7 seats? try to find a used Sienna... If you don't need that many seats, I'd add a bit and get a new CH-R or a Corolla Cross - both are awesome cars. | |||||

| ... road trips we go on for my daughter’s travel team. Also, back then, Consumer reports highly recommended the Subaru Forester. If I had subbed to the Scotty Kilmer channel at the time, I would not have bought it and gotten a Toyota or a Honda. I am the proud owner of a 20-year-old Toyota Tacoma SR5 Double Cab 4x4 that runs as good as the day I got it. Lesson learned. All this to say, the one major feature that I despise with the passion of a thousand burning suns is the Auto Start/Stop feature in the Sports package. I despised having to manually disable it e ... | |||||

| Do not listen to these "REPORTS". A user posted a link which said that the depreciation of used Mercedes SUV and Lexus SUV is the same. Some people fall for that, although a bit later, they all regret and it is too late for that. | |||||

| @kerem-umut-kerem That is exactly what I wanted (and expected) to know from you. You can't just go by Consumer reports for everything. ACUTAL experiences from owners and techs is what you need to know. I personally had a 2011 with ZERO issues until it got totaled at 70k miles (got replaced with a 9th gen) I never had any issues with the brakes on either btw. If you actually knew a thing or two about Hondas, you would know that 03-07 accords had a weaker transmission than the 08-12, the 5-speed in the 8th gen was much more robust. 2013 was the first year they ... | |||||

| How about a non-turbo Mazda 6? Engine and transmission are tried and tested (unchanged for 5+ years) and you can still get a stick-shift! iirc, Consumer reports rated Mazda #1 in terms of reliability. Toyota dealers are living high off the hog and don't have much incentive to negotiate. Also, depending on where you live there's an unpleasant middleman who gets a cut and plays games (several hundred dollars worth of useless add-ons, like spray-on "rustproofing"). They go by names like 'Gulf States Toyota' in several states around Texas. Just google them and s ... | |||||

| A very big component of "quality control" is what's called in the industry "configuration management", i.e. reduce the permutations of what you're selling and in an anal-retentive way chase down and fix problems in those few configurations that leave your factory doors. Mazda basically sells one platform, one engine, and one transmission in US (they just stretch and shrink that platform and that same 4 cylinder Skyactiv engine with the same 6 speed auto; stick is a miniscule proportion of overall sales and that's already bullet-proof, just go to any of your local Miata races: ). Furthermore they make all these in-house (i.e. they don't shop around and try one product after another from, say, a transmission supplier hoping it'll work out better than the last product: Honda, I'm looking at you). It wouldn't surprise me that their engineers (all speaking the same language and located a short drive from each other in Hiroshima, Japan, i.e. no communication issues: Boeing, I'm looking at you after 787 and 737 fiascos) chase down and shake down all the "bugs" in their products and that's what's reduced their problem reports over what, say, a bigger manufacturer with several product lines and operations spread across several continents (Mercedes is undergoing a huge effort to pare down their number of platforms) has to go through. | |||||

| This is good to know; the car does have records. Autocheck requires you buy their report. I like to use carsforsale.com because their reports are free and have details on possible problems. I also use vehiclehistory.com which is also free and gives info on the vehicle's engine, manufacturing plant and other specs. Are there any other free car history reports you may know of? I like to use multiple sources. Appreciate your help. | |||||

| Hi, what do you guys think about CR reliability reports? These are unbiased, non subsidized surveys right? In particular 2020 reliability minivan reports that Chrysler pacifica is most reliable minivan 5/5 ahead of sienna 3/5. The 2018 and 2019 models for pacifica reliability scores were awful. Do you think that this could indicate that Chryslers pacifica has turned a corner? Thanks | |||||
