Hi,

I was wondering what everyone thinks about a 1973-79 Ford F-Series truck as a first vehicle and what would be the best engine/transmission/series? I also am wondering any issues these trucks may have. I am also interested in 1978-79 Ford Broncos as well.

Hey they are old as the hills and gas hogs but hey if you can find one that isn't rusted out go for V8 engines they can last a really long time if you can find ones that have the Windsor v8s made in Canada those are the best ones

Ford trucks in this vintage are stylish and valuable. If you intend on taking the time to do some overdue maintenance you may find on an old unit like this they are a good investment. Typically you will find the steering to be less than responsive and often sloppy. The 300 six cylinder is a strong reliable engine. Manual transmission is better. You can also get 302 or 351W. Both have better oiling qualities. The Bronco is a fun ride. Plan on doing some maintenance especially on the old wiring. If you find a restored one expect to pay a nice price for it.

Good Luck.

Hi, Thanks for giving me all of the info I need on an older vehicle like this. I will definitely take your advice on this and use it when I am buying one.

Glad to help. Post pics if you find one.
