Need help identifying a sound; There is a whining sound coming from underneath the car near the torque convertor/transmission. It only happens when the car is in a L, 2, or D gear, the noise pauses briefly when changing between the gears and then resumes. This sound occurs without pressing on the accelerator, it is not coming from the engine bay or any belts. So basically the car is not in motion, my foot is on the brake. This has been happening for a month or so now, before and after recent oil, transmission, power steering, and brake fluid changes. I'm using the correct fluids (example: Dexron II ATF for power steering/transmission), all fluids have remained clean (no metal flakes during checks/changing).
Here is a video of the noise, as close as I can identify. I've tried to replicate the noise on a lift but by the time I've driven that far the car has warmed up and the noise stops: https://youtu.be/KbnnFV7xPBY
My best guess at the moment is that it could be that the front seal needs transmission fluid or I need to reapply grease to the pilot of the torque converter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Sounds like a worn torque converter or front pump.
Thank you, I picked up some ramps for the garage. I'll inspect further tonight.
The sound is definitely coming from the inspection cover near the torque converter and flex plate. Is it safe to remove the inspection cover without draining the fluids?
Yes, it's just a dust cover.
