2017 GMC Sierra Leaf Spring Clunk

Scotty,

I have a 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500. 5.3L, 4WD.  42k miles. The rear suspension/leaf springs make a “clunking” noise when turning at low speeds (forward and reverse). There are no adverse handling or towing affects. All mounting hardware is tight and there is no corrosion. I’ve read online, some owners believe it’s the rubber isolator pads that sit between the leafs somehow fail, causing the noise. Visual inspection shows no cracking, dry rot or shifting pads. This is the second time this issue has occurred. The issue was “resolved” under warranty by the dealer (25k miles) by replacing the both leaf spring packs and hardware and shackles. The 3year/36k bumper to bumper warranty is up. I’m not sure if it’ll be covered if I take to another dealer. Any thoughts on fix? There are no mechanical failures nor performance issues, it’s just annoying. Maybe poor quality control during the leaf pack manufacturing.

Could be the rubber bushings on your rear shocks are worn out, both top and bottom.  Check the spring hanger bushings as well.
