Advice for a 2008 Lexus es 350 transmission issue

So this is going to be a ramble so ill start with the specs, 163k miles unknown service history last owner drove it for 70k miles or so. So I've been having a transmission issue with clunky shifting and sometimes the rpm will bounce up and down without me changing the pressure on the throttle. It will also sometimes clunk into reverse and drive but not consistently, can often depend on if i disconnect the battery or not or weather its cold warm of hot. I had a p0741 code that went away came back one more time then went away again. I just bought this car so id prefer to avoid getting another especially considering I quite like the car. I was hoping perhaps if I change the fluid and replace the TCC solenoid it could help. The mechanic that "inspected" the vehicle for me prior to purchase and said there were no issues suggests a flush, but are against Lucas transmission fix. The transmission shop near me that specializes in transmissions recommends just a change and is also against the Lucas transmission fix. I was curious if anyone had advice on who to take it to/any possible solutions that are not replacing the tranny. I could save up for that but it is currently not in the cards, I could attempt to replace the torque converter if that might help. Sorry that was rather unorganized but any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't put too much money into a trans with 160k. When is the last time the fluid was changed? What does it look like now? See our FAQ for more info.

Might be best to just ride it out. Never flush.

I am not sure when the fluid was last changed, as I just bought it.

I wanted to add that if changing the fluid is a viable option I would be willing to try doing it myself when I do the oil.

When I was having trouble with the transmission on my '07 ES350 after getting it flushed by a Toyota dealer, a fellow member here mentioned BG transmission service.  My transmission was restored to normal function after having that done to my car.  In speaking to the service advisor, they don't use high pressure to force the fluid, the transmission's pump is used to move the liquid through. It might be a viable option before trying more expensive options.

okay ill look into that thanks

so at this point I think I got screwed I had the car inspected test drove it well over an hour and a half and it all checked out fine then but now it seems to be falling apart. the car has 163k miles I checked and no records for transmission fluid changes only oil changes. the codes I got were: p2808 p2714 and p0746 they are currently pending codes not stored. Any help appreciated as always thanks.
