Hi, I have a 2017 GMC Yukon XL (5.3, 6-speed automatic) which I purchased with 55,000 miles. It now has 90,000 miles with no problems or codes.
I changed the automatic transmission fluid and filter shortly after purchase, and also installed a drain plug in the transmission pan.
I change the engine oil every 5,000 miles, and drain the transmission pan and refill it every other oil change (so every 10,000 miles), because I've read that this transmission is the weak link in this drivetrain.
My question is if I am wasting money doing this or will it prolong the life of my transmission ?
Thank You !

You are changing transmission fluid every 10,000 miles?! That adds up quick in cost and is overkill. I would change (drain and fill) along with filter (if applicable) no more than every 40,000 miles. Also, stick with the OEM transmission fluid.
You are wasting your money.
yes, changing the fluid will help your transmission last as long as it can... to a limit, but I don't think you're going to experience any significant difference between changing it every 50k or 10k. (I think 100k is what's recommended in your manual for normal use, and 45k for severe duty). The returns are diminishing. Especially with modern fluids. You can of course adjust a bit for conditions, eg towing, etc.
Thanks Guys for your input !!
