I have a 2000 Ford F350 dually Super Duty, 7.3 v8 diesel with 159,586 miles with a 6 speed standard trans. Power everything.
The marker lights on my rear fenders were in need of replacement and I purchased 4 new LED marker lights for it. I installed 3 of them with no issues. They worked great. While installing the fourth and last light I had issues. At first when I plugged the light in, it lit up just like the others but by the time I was finished, all four markers went out. First I checked the fuses and none were blown. Then I noticed some corrosion on the tips of the fuses, so I changed all the fuses out with brand new ones only to find that now I didn't have any interior lights, hood light, tail lights, cab roof lights and also my power widows quit working. Oh, and still no marker lights as well. I then disconnected the new marker lights but still all above issues remained. Please help me!
Replace all the LED stuff with the original equipment bulbs.
Thank you for your reply! It seemsbto be the most popular answer I've come across. I read that in my research and hoped that disconnecting the led lighs would satisfy that senerio but it didn't. The old plugs and lights are shot so I'll need to find some replacements. So what has to be done to install LED's? I wanted to replace all my lights with them plus add a few more. I also reset the computer but of course it didn't help.
First of all, you don't give out a down vote just because you don't like the answer. Second, you need to do the research and find a conversion kit that has all the proper receptacles, resistors, etc., to successfully make the transition from incandescent to LED that your vehicle wasn't designed for in the first place. It can be done, and many have done it. This question has been asked many times on the forum and I'm sure you can find lots of info in the FAQ section that will help. Good luck.
I downvote answers I don't like all the time
I apologise for the negative vote Doc! Im still all thumbs on this site. I just joined last night but thank you also for pointing it out to me. Your answer was just dandy. And probably the correct one. But for right now I would just like to get the system back online and if possible still tie in the LED marker lights because they do make quite a statement. I was looking at an LED light bar (red) to replace the one between the gate and the bumper just over the plate and the third level brake light/cargo light. After that maybe some ground effects and colored interior effects. I usually do my research thoroughly but because the LED's use less power I didn't think. Once again, thank you for your advise!
You are very welcome. I'm sure you will be able to achieve your goal with enough research.
Hey Doc, I did what you said but with no luck. I had a friend go over it with me and we found 2 more fuses blown under the hood. I now have my tail lights, marker lights, dash lights and cab roof lights back but still no map, hood, or glovebox lights. M power windows still dont work also but im still looking. Thanks for all your help!
There are "standard" LEDs and then there are the CANBUS types. The CANBUS types work the best but they are more expensive. You have to make sure that they are a true equivalent, also. Some get listed as compatible but they are not. Some vehicles use different types of sockets but a LED may fit the socket but won't work or won't work properly. So you have to be aware of that also.
I bought these at a truckstop. They are by Roadpro. The package doesn't classify them either way you described. To be honest, I bought them based on looks and I have to say that they really pop. The reason for replacing them was because the original sockets were broke.
On anything 97-10 F-Series (150-450) you want to keep as much stock as possible, I can show you the reasons....in other words all the wires I had to remove the previous owner had installed on my 03 F250.
My 99 F150 had its gem cook simply from adding a CB radio. I didn't do any "hacks" etc, did it all properly & one day everything just stopped working so I had to manually wire & install DPDT switches on every accessory including the windows.
It's a complete pain but thankfully I'm good with wires.
Thanks for the advice. My plan was to do the 4 markers on the rear fenders, the 3rd level brake light/ cargo lights, and the light bar over the license plate just under the tail gate.
