Hi Scotty,
I have 2008 Jeep Patriot with 219,000 kms/ 136,000 miles, I did an OBD scan and no codes.
It's making a high pitch noise, and when I posted a video to a Facebook group it was suggested that it was either alternator or Tensioner pulley.
For some reason Jeep made it a HUGE hassle to do any work on the car. The alternator is at the bottom and access is from underneath. But before you get to the alternator you have to lift the car, remove both wheels so that you can Access slide clips for the huge under car plastic covering. Then a bracket and a/c condenser have to be moved before touching the alternator. There is no working room either.
- Should this be dealt with right away or can I just keep driving?
- I didn't see an option to upload a video but let me know if there is
Thanks
You can upload your video to Youtube and post the link to it here.
your video is private. I can't get my peepers on it.
I deleted it and tried it again. I can confirm that this isn't set to private.

squeal eventual leads to *snap*- *bang*- *rattle rattle rattle * then still and quiet.
Would you rather fix the problem now in your driveway, or later on a dark, snowy night on the side of the freeway, or waiting for a tow truck and then shelling out a bunch of cash for someone to (hopefully) fix it?
Unfortunately if it is urgent I would have to take it in as work has been very busy with 12 hour shifts. In regards to the weather it is cold (-12°C / 10°F)
If this sound helps see below

It sounds like an alternator that's about to give up.
Try taking the belt off and turn the alt pulley by hand. See if it feels crunchy.
Unfortunately, the noise you describe could be a bearing going out on your alternator, water pump, power steering pump, idler and tensioner pulley or AC compressor, or, just a bad belt. If you can bet a long 1/2 steel bar and put it on each of these items at idle, you'll be able to hear which, if any, of these components is going bad.
Thanks for the feedback. Would you say this is something urgent and needs to be dealt with or one of those things that you can live with for a while?

Haven't had a chance to check it with a steel bar yet, but made a video the other day

Let me put it this way. It is not going to get better and will quite probably leave you on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck. That's just my opinion, but experience has led me to heed these types or warnings.
