Hi,

2019 TOYOTA YARIS HATCH MANUAL 29,000KM, no codes

My cars manual says i can use different type of motor oil, "depending on the temperature i expect".  But the cap says 5W30.

Should i keep using 5W30 in any event, that would be best for my engine last the longest,

or is it better to change to a thicker oil for summer heat up to 47c.

Thankyou.

Clarification Needed:

When you're saying Yaris - what car do you mean?

- Mazda based model? :

- Euro Yaris? (XP210):

- Toyota Vitz (XP130):

- Toyota Vios (XP150) and cars based on it:

- or something else

as far as I remember these were the main models sold under the "Yaris" name in 2019.

XP130 yaris ascent in Australia, built in Japan, 1.3L 2NZ-FE engine

The correct oil for this vehicle is 5w30 only.

my manual says different, shows a range of temperatures and a range of different oils within the graph, like yours there, but i dont have that page.

This is the updated manual provided on the Toyota Canada website

Follow the user's manual.

Follow the manual. They can't print a whole oil chart onto the cap.

Assuming 5w-30 is specified in the manual, I’d just stick with that.  No need to overthink it.  Just buy a bunch next time you find it on sale (and several filters) and change it every 3-5000 miles (5-7000 km).

On page 442 of your owner's manual, it specifies 0w20 oil for all temperature ranges.

You are looking at the US sedan manual. Notice that mr. toyotabest specificies his odometer in kilometres.

"The 2019 model year XP130 Yaris Liftback was never introduced in the United States; Toyota continued sales of the 2018 model into January 2019 when it was discontinued."

yes, Australia japanese built XP130 2NZ-FE engine, book says a range of oils depending on temperature - but the cap says "5W-30". Its saying two different things. haha what is best for longevity, a thicker oil in summer, or just keep the thin stuff? Summer is the issue really.

I would look at the table in your owner's manual and use the weight of oil they specify for the ambient temperature you are operating in.  I personally use 5w30 in the winter and 10w40 in the summer, but that is for a very old vehicle, not a modern one like yours.
