Dear Scotty,
What do you think of these Hyundai N badged cars? The Veloster N has been out for 3 years in a 6 speed, but the new Kona and Elantra have N cara with DCTs coming later this year I'm interested in. My partner doesn't want a 6 speed.
Thanks Alex
If you must have one, lease it & get it out of your system.
I will admit, I was aboard the N train for a while, saving my money to get a Veloster N. I test drove a 2020 Elantra GT N-Line and then tested the 2020 Veloster N. The Elantra N-Line was okay, I didn't get the feel of much more power than my current 2016 Elantra GT. The Veloster N test drive 15 minutes were the most fun I ever had behind the wheel of a car. But after having issues with the engine on my current Elantra GT, I decided I didn't want another Hyundai product until their engine manufacturing improves. I shared a shuttle ride to the Hyundai dealer from the rental company with a lady whose 2020 Kona was getting engine replaced after the first oil change with 6000 miles. I'm running far away from Hyundai now!
The N stands for No.
It's very unlikely they'll be any better in terms of quality and reliability than their past offerings, which have been awful.
Anything that reads Hyundai Kia or Genesis is a rolling pile of junk. They won't last 100k miles problem free. Please stay away from those vehicles.
