I have an Ford Ka 1.0 2010 with ~30.000KM (pretty low for it's age) with a lot of little problems (some where caused by his low usage by the old owner).
Like the hot air which is on all the time, the air vents are broken, the battery is dying, had some problems with the gas pump and filter, the exhaust and I'll need to change the oil in the next ~5000KM.
I use it between 25 and 30 km daily. It's not a pleasant ride, but the distance dos not make it too much annoying.
The car begun to have very little force and almost left me on a uphill. Almost needed to call a tow truck.
Had to replace the candles and candle cables and I started to get annoyed by the car.
A friend is selling his Honda Fit LX 1.4 2010 with ~130000KM and the car looks great.
My question is about the price. My car is ~18% over the regular price and my friends car is ~28% over the regular price.
When the prices come back to normal, the Honda Fit will have a bigger depreciation on his price, so I'm questioning if now is a good time to switch cars.
P.S.: English is not my native language, so I apologize if something look off.
After thinking for a while I decided buy the Honda. I've done a test drive today and it feels sweet.
Thank you @kaizen and @avalon04 for sharing your thoughts on the purchase and @itwt for sharing some good info to troubleshoot the intermittent loss of power on the Ford.
P.S.: I'm new on the forum, do I need to close this topic or something?
Thanks for the update. I marked the thread as solved (Green check selected).
Cool, thank you very much.
Congratulations on the purchase of your "new" Honda and thanks for letting us know.
It’s hard to predict the future. This could very well be the new standard for car prices. This could be how it is for the foreseeable future. Or this could be the top and it is downhill from here. Who knows?
I personally prefer the Honda over the Ford, so I may bite the bullet and go for it. Assuming it checks out.
When was the last time your present car had a proper service/tune up?
For the lack of power, see here - https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/misfire-4/
It's been less than a month since my mechanic replaced the spark plugs and spark plugs wires (I called "candles" in the post).
Now I occasionally feel lack of power while the car start to move.
Thanks for the link, maybe the battery is the problem.
Also, replace the fuel filter (if equipped) and pressure test the fuel pump.
My mechanic also replaced the fuel filter, I forgot to mention it.
And a year ago the fuel pump was also replaced.
The 12 year old Ford with 18,641 miles and with the problems which you have described, is an indication of it’s poor quality combined with the poor maintenance of it by the previous owner. You even say that you are annoyed with it.
The 12 year old Honda with 80,000 miles that your friend is selling, looks great according to you, and you have not described any problems with it. If it is given a thumbs up by a skilled mechanic, that is indicative of it’s quality build and proper care by the previous owner.
The difference in your valuation numbers could easily be equalized by the cost of continuing repairs that the Ford may (and has already) require.
As Kaizen suggests, this may be the new normal for car prices. Big corporations such as auto makers, pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, etc. generally prefer inflated prices and once they acquire them, they are not eager to quickly let them return to “normal”.
So, get Fit and enjoy it!
