| Hi Scotty, I am from Canada, Recently in august i bought 2016 Subaru outback 2.5l 4cyl premium withODO 150k km on it for the price 15k CAD from dealership. Its almost 3k-4k less per kbb. Clear carfax. Just driven around 1500km on it and don’t see any major issues so far. Of course I have to change the oil as the last it was done during January and almost driven 9k km on it. Dealership technician honestly reported that minor oil seapage observed and will be doing good with regular maintenance. The mechanic who inspected vehicle on my behalf also agreed upon ... | |||||

| Thanks, I was unaware Scotty had ever mentioned kbb . I agree, their values can be inflated. When a value is an 'inflated value', paying more that the 'inflated value' is usually a bad idea. I maintain it's still a very useful guide -one must know how to use it and understand its limitations. | |||||

| Kelley Blue Book is an excellent guide for vehicle values in your area. Since it's a Highlander and a dealer, they're asking full retail and some more. | |||||

| I am planning to put some money into it. I have some I can use. I don't know that much about maintaining a car. Was going to change the oil and maybe add some aftermarket parts like a cold air intake, a new exhaust system (not going to do that myself though, would not know where to start), change the spark plugs, swap out engine coils for nicer ones, and add some exterior decorative stuff. The kbb.com value definitely tells me that its current value is way below what I paid. Hmm, that's pretty disappointing. | |||||

| That car has one of Honda's early CVTs so it's really not much of a surprise for it to fail at 165K miles, especially if it had not been serviced on a regular basis. The kbb.com site pegs the "fair dealer price" of a 2015 Honda Fit at about $8500. I would not put $7500 into that vehicle. | |||||

| The v6 is a good engine. And this could be a solid car. Just don't let the 'eye candy' distract you because the appearance is 'pretty" because the $8400 price is high. (It's not worth $8k) Dealers often slap higher prices on 'appealing' cars as a sales ploy. This gives potential buyers the illusion of a 'good deal' because they reduced the price a bit. Take @chucktobias advice here about having a mechanic inspect the car. This My Car's Value will give you values of the car in your area. | |||||

| According kbb it's not worth $8k regardless. Doesn't matter if it's coupe or convertible, it's closer to $5.8k in very good condition. | |||||

| That's a pretty big red flag. However if you can make an appointment with a local shop an hour should be sufficient. A short test drive is not enough to determine the car's actual condition. As is typical with dealers they are asking too much. The kbb.com site (which tends towards inflated prices to begin with) pegs a fair dealer price for that car at about $8000. | |||||
