| Answer to: USING the SCISSOR Jack to jack up the car??? | 24Relevance | 2 years ago | Mark-Snodgrass | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Whatever jack you use, make sure you are on level hard ground, preferably concrete. Apply your e-brake, and chock the rear wheels. I put a brick in front of and behind both rear tires (4 bricks total). You can buy actual wheel chocks too, I’ve never priced them out before | |||||

| Answer to: Floor jack for 2001 buick park avenue | 24Relevance | 3 years ago | MountainManJoe | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I wouldn't recommend it. "Safe" and "Effective" are two different things. You should use a 2 ton for a heavy car like that. there's a reason that jack is so cheap ... it won't last. | |||||
| Answer to: Do you store a floor jack with the valve open or closed? | 24Relevance | 4 years ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I leave the valve open but only because when I put the jack away I've invariably just let the car down. Otherwise I've never thought about it and doubt it makes any difference. | |||||
| Answer to: Should I use manual oil extractor for oil change on my 2000 Toyota Echo? | 24Relevance | 2 years ago | Mark-Snodgrass | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If you try jack stands or ramps, ramps are pretty self explanatory. Use e-brake and chock rear wheels, see below. For jack stands, your manual should show you the jack points. Always jack car on hard level surface like concrete. Apply e-brake, and chock the rear wheels. I have some bricks. I put one in front and back of each rear wheel (4 bricks) | |||||
| Answer to: Should I use rubber floor or carpet floor mats? | 23Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Whatever you find more comfortable. Personally given the choice I’d use only rubber floor mats - but it’s really just a matter of personal preference. | |||||
| RE: brake pedal slowly to floor | 26Relevance | 5 years ago | RobK | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Thanks Mink for the instructions. I hear a pssst coming from the under the pedal when I slowly press the pedal to the floor. From research I found the vacuum booster system is suspect specifically the check valve on the manifold. I bought the 2019 OB with 15k miles. The car sat for 2 month. I wonder if low usage and lack of daily use contributed to a vacuum system malfunction. I drove the car hard braking for the last few weeks. The brakes work as they should during normal stop and go driving. When the engine is at idle at red light for extended time o ... | |||||
| Answer to: Door handle, oil pan gasket | 24Relevance | 2 years ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Usually jack stands come in 3 or 6 ton capacities. The 6 ton are taller so you'd have to raise the car higher to accommodate them. Be sure to use good quality jack stands and have a secondary support in place just in case. If you don't need to take the wheels off ramps might be a better choice, but that car's nose is probably pretty close to the ground and it may be challenging to find ramps that will work with it. Likewise you're going to need a low-profile jack, and a high-lift one, especially to use 6 ton jackstands. | Air Strut Installation and Curb and/or Control Weight Positions | 24Relevance | 4 years ago | mrfixerupper | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I own a 2016 Audi S6 (V8TT) with 148,000 miles on it. The car has been good to me with only general upkeep needed. I recently purchased new air struts and air shocks from a company in Germany. The struts do not have a fork built in but rather slide into a fork that is tightened. The Audi Service Repair Manual is telling me to tighten the control arms, fork, and strut down by raising the wheel hub so the center of it is 384mm below the wheel arch trim. Seems easy enough if I'm willing to buy their engine lift and wheel bearing tool for thousands of dollars. How can get the wheel hub and suspension to 384mm without breaking the bank? I have jack stands, a 3 ton jack, and a motorcycle jack, although I don't think I can use the motorcycle jack as it's only rates for 1,000 pounds. | |||||
| Answer to: Why is my BMW shaking? | 23Relevance | 2 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| jack up the motor with a floor jack, with a wood block between it and the jack. When you reach the engine, the motor mounts will want to rise with the engine, if they're still good. It they're bad, the motor will start to come free of the mount or mounts. There are usually 3 mounts, not one single mount. The weight of the engine is held by the metal of the mounts when the rubber fails, and it's kept there by gravity. The shaking is caused by the bolts, which have now become loose. Metal doesn't dampen vibrations, either, for obvious reasons. | |||||
| Answer to: 2017 Camry Engine Mounts | 23Relevance | 2 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If you have a floor jack, put a piece of wood between the engine and the jack, open the hood and slowly jack from the engine. If the engine moves without the car itself following suit, you have bad motor mounts. Simple hand tools and a torque wrench are all you need to replace engine mounts. I find that hard to believe, personally. All 4 motor mounts shouldn't go out almost one after the other, unless maybe you drive down pothole heaven all the time. I would also be suspicious of the transmission if it's never been serviced. | |||||
| How much height do I need to lift a 3rd gen CR-V (07-11) enough to clear the wheels off the ground? | 23Relevance | 3 years ago | BobTheHatKing | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Anyone here know the minimum height I need to raise a 2011 Honda CR-V LX FWD enough to clear the wheels off the ground? I'm looking to get a hydraulic floor jack. I previously bought a Harbor Freight jack that didn't lift high enough so I had to return it. You'd think this information would be easy to find online but guess not... I do have the scissor jack that came with the car from the factory, and I can use that to measure if I need to, but if someone knows, you can save me the trouble. | |||||

| If you have a floor jack, put a piece of wood like a 2×4 between the oil pan and jack, then slowly jack up the motor. The car should rise as soon as the motor wants to go. If the motor itself rises, you have a broken motor mount. Crankshafts have harmonic balancers on the front of the engine to stabilize them. I've never really heard of one going bad, you would know if it is, the engine would want to tear itself apart. | |||||

| Good point on checking the jack every once in a while. My truck's bottle jack seized up over the summer when I was working on it. Couldn't get the thing to move again, and had to use my small floor jack to get it off. | |||||
