| Answer to: 2015 Lexus 350 IS | 18Relevance | 5 years ago | Whatchamacallit | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| That transmission is the longitudinal Aisin AA81E also used in the MY 2014 Lexus GS350 and MY 2015 RC350. It has been holding up so far on those models. Also, this transmission is a derivative of the AA80E first used in 2007 on the Lexus LS (as well as IS F and GS 460) so Toyota/Lexus has been using the 8-speed longitudinal transmission since then and has refined it over time without radical changes. Also, be sure to stay on top of your atf change intervals and don’t drive like a maniac and it should last. See our atf sticky here: | |||||

| Answer to: Replace ATF or not? | 19Relevance | 3 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Automatic transmissions aren't like manual transmissions. You can't get all of the fluid out of an automatic in one sitting. Only what's in the pan you can change. If it's never been changed, I would probably leave it, Hyundai have weak automatic transmissions, and the fluid is designed to last for 60,000 miles. You might take a small sample and judge based on that. | |||||
| Answer to: Automatic transmission fluid change | 17Relevance | 2 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If you're an absolute freak about it, go ahead and do another fluid change. Only a portion of the transmission fluid actually comes out of the transmission, anyways. The bulk of what doesn't come out on a fluid change is in the torque converter. | |||||

| Hi! I have a 2017 Hyundai accent (automatic transmission) that I bought with around 52,000 miles on it. It was a rental car before I bought it so I know it was well taken care of. Anyway it was a shared car during my marriage, and since my ex-husband did all the driving, he was in charge or car maintenance. Surprise, surprise, he didn't do anything. Now I'm at 113,000-ish miles, and it's time for me to get a transmission fluid change. I watched Scotty Kilmer's video about what happens if you don't change your transmission fluid for a long time and then suddenly do. I know I missed a change around 83,000 miles. I'm now stuck wondering what my options are. Do I change it, and risk it slipping? Do I leave it and know my car is going to eventually die out (I still owe like 7K)? Do I change 1/2 of the fluid and then in a few months change the other 1/2? Is missing one fluid change NBD and changing it will be totally fine? Thanks so much in advance for your help! I'm really at a loss and want to take better care of my vehicle now. Thank you for helping me navigate the scary world of car maintenance. -Bugvines | |||||

| I’m back with another question, sorry but I’m changing my serpentine belt and spark plugs tomorrow so while I’m feeling motivated I wanna see if I should also change my atf fluid. It’s a 06 Sonata 3.3L v6. I bought it at 94k, can’t say for sure if it’s ever been changed. And I unfortunately neglected to do it myself until maybe now. It’s sitting at 147k and the fluid is a little bit brownish. Manual calls for the first change at 105k. I know that’s bs and should be done way more often than that. It’s shifts just fine now but I was thinking more just drain so ... | |||||

| ... and fill. The car should be warm-to-hot (unlike oil changes). Drain the fluid out and MEASURE IT. Put on a new filter, after you remove the pan. Check the gasket. Replace if necessary. Torque to spec. Then use fresh OEM WS-ATF ONLY (check your manual, but I believe that is the right fluid) to refill, EXACTLY the amount of the old fluid that was drained. Let the transmission fluid warm up, run through the gears, and check the dipstick, multiple times. (Don't mix with other brands or types of atf). Here's an article on how to read the dipstick (which ca ... | |||||
| Answer to: Change transmission fluid on 228k Toyota Sienna? | 19Relevance | 5 years ago | geriscan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... replace the fluid in the pan, essentially (not directly accessing the fluid in the more vulnerable torque converter). This will allow fresh fluid to replenish the additives that will keep the various seals in the transmission more supple, which is something that is desirable. A few points: 1. Use the recommended OEM fluid, only. (In this case, I believe it's WS-ATF, but you should confirm). Do not use any other fluid that the OEMs. (Scotty makes this point, frequently). A non-OEM fluid will mix poorly with the remaining OEM fluid, creating harmful chemical ... | |||||

| Answer to: Just bought Camry with 103,000 miles. What services should I do? | 17Relevance | 5 years ago | Whatchamacallit | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| What services were previously done before - do you know? Otherwise, if you don’t know, I would say at 103,000 miles to perform the engine oil change, transmission atf change (drain and fill with filter change), coolant, brake fluid change, air filter/cabin filter. Also, cross-check with your owner’s manual for anything else. You can hold off on the TB/MAF for now unless you suspect issues with how the engine runs. Be sure from this point onward you are on top of your engine oil and transmission atf fluid changes; engine/transmission fluid changes are relatively cheap compared to a new engine/transmission. | |||||
