| Will a missing beauty cover bolt be a problem? | 75Relevance | 4 years ago | Devin Ashland | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| On my 06 toyota corolla, with 94,000 miles, I'm about to start replacing the valve cover gasket and the intake manifold gasket (in that order) but I was wanting ask about my Beauty cover, the plastic cover that sits on top of my engine...its only held on with one bolt...both plastic clips are also missing... Does the missing bolt for the Beauty cover effect the pressure of the other bolts across the top of the valve cover, or is it just for the silly Beauty cover? Thanks | |||||
| Oil on top of engine beauty cover | 46Relevance | 3 years ago | Ben K | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, Ben here from New York. I have an oil burning 2014 Audi Q5 2.0t with 170k miles. Every now and then I'll open my hood and see oil residue on the top of the engine Beauty cover. Its not always in the obvious areas like, where the oil filler cap or timing cover is. Last week I changed oil and filter, cleaned the cover off and it stayed clean for a few days. Today I opened the hood and sure enough there is oil on the cover. Any idea what could be causing that? Also I have P2293 and 12A4 codes. Thanks in advance! | |||||

| Back in may when I had moved up to new york and first got my car inspected, one of the local mechanics that has decades of experience, said to ditch the Beauty cover. He said up here in the cold weather, the mice like to hide under it, and chew away at everything. They may still get in there, but it doesn't make it as easy to hide. I hate taking the thing off to check stuff like power steering fluid anyway. Beauty covers removed. | |||||
| Use Loctite on beauty cover bolt? | 43Relevance | 3 years ago | Devin8778 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello, I drive a 06 Toyota Corolla LE, manual, with about 98,000 miles on it now. Since I have owned it, I have only had one Beauty cover bolt to secure the cover to the metal valve cover. Ace hardware sold me a bolt, but suggested lock tight (which they sold me as well). I think their thinking was to have the main part of the bolt permanently screwed into the metal valve over, with a simple removable cap nut and washer. But I have yet to put it on because I have been worried about the lock tight. Is it even needed? Thanks for your help. | |||||
| Avalon ignition coil valve cover oil seal tube replacement | 40Relevance | 5 years ago | Wheels33@ | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey Scott, I have a 2005 Toyota Avalon with 156k miles. 13k miles ago I had to replace the front #2 bank valve cover gasket and seals due to an obvious leak around the gasket, not because of the valve cover oil tube seals leaking. At the time, I did not replace the rear #1 bank valve cover gaskets and seals because I had replaced all the plugs and ignition coils at 126k miles and knew what a chore it would be to get to the rear # 1 bank valve cover to replace the valve cover gasket, etc. Hindsight being 20/20, I realize now, to be safe, that I should have replaced the #1 bank valve cover gasket, seals and ignition oil tube seals while replacing the ignition coils, etc., at 126k miles As of today, #1 banks gasket is still not leaking at all around the valve cover gasket and there are no obvious signs that there is an ignition coil oil tube seal leak. The engine has no codes and runs great. My question is what would you recommend about replacing the valve cover gasket, seals and ignition coil oil tube seals to avoid a failure of the tube seals which would oil the plugs and ignition coils on bank #1? And, do you have any idea on a Toyota Avalon at what mileage the ignition coil oil tube seals might start leaking and wetting the plug and ignition coils? Or, should I just suck it up and replace the gasket and seals on valve cover bank #1? Thanks you, Jim B | |||||

| I think Scotty is hilarious for removing and tossing the Beauty covers. It’s his bit. It’s funny. He has a good sense of humor. On my BMW, I kept the stupid Beauty cover on. But one of my BMW mechanics, in the exact same car that he has, he took the stupid Beauty cover off. C’est la vie. | |||||

| The stupid Beauty cover seems to have become more prominent when cars switched from distributors to coil on plug. I don’t know if that just a correlation, or causation. | |||||

| You can go to a hardware or auto parts store an buy the metric bolt and the plastic clips if you want to keep it on without rattling. I usually take the Beauty cover off and put it in a corner of my garage. | |||||

| Hi: The plastic cover on my 2011 2.5L Camry broke at the front attachment and is now not really secure over the engine. Do I really need this cover? I notice on this engine the spark plug coils are exposed etc. Is this cover used as a protective shield. Thank you. | |||||

| Scotty, If I insert a camera into the oil fill on a 2011 Cadillac CTS 3.0 Luxury, what could I expect to see if the car was loosing oil because the breather intake line wasnt connected to the top oftne valve cover ? | 40Relevance | 4 years ago | Cody | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 2011 Cadillac CTS 3.0 Luxury Sedan The dealership has been caught lying more than once. Just last week, I just brought the car in for an oil change, and The Service Rep comes out with a distressed look on his face, " we are going to have to put your extended warranty to work for us, your timing cover is leaking. For the first time in two years, I am invited into the shop to see the results of this problem. The Mechanic shows the service rep the location of the leak with a flashlight. Then shows me. The oil pan cover was covered in fresh oil, as if they filled a container and dunked the pan in a bath of oil. It is made clear to me and it is confirmed the timing cover is leaking, it's a big job 17 hours to fix. As we walked back to the customer service waiting area, I told the service rep that last week I found the breather tube improperly routed and not connected to the fitting on the valve cover. His exact words were who ever was in there before us must have done that . At the end of the day it turns out my extended warranty good till may 2022, expired due to mileage 24k since I bought it. So service rep calls me tells me the bad news, and does not recommend fixing it out of pocket. I pick up the car go home for the weekend and go to work Monday, checking my service records and since I have a photo eidetic memory, and these guys already did this job 1 year and 4 months ago and their service work is supposed to be covered for 2 years. I called left message politely reminded him of the prior service work and invoice number. The service rep calls me back and tells me I was excited when I got your message and normally this would be covered under our service warranty but, since it is the oil pan cover that is leaking it is not. So last Thursday 2 people verified its a timing cover the following Monday it changes to the oil pan cover. To fix the oil pan cover the timing cover has to come off first lol I have attempted to contact the owner of this company Robert Geyer who owns 42 different companies and is worth 7million dollars. He was not at his office ( Sunset Chevrolet in Sarasota Florida ) on Saturday, I took a shot, His associate Mike told me to contact the general manager of the Sunset Cadillac Dealership in Venice Florida. I'll keep you posted if you like. I believe they didn't fix anything and submitted a false claim to my warranty company, including headlamps they claimed didn't work, However no proof of that, just the invoice claiming they did do the work however it appears their work is no good. When I remove the oil fill cap there is white/gray smoke tiny amount rising out of the fill hole. Car has been running hot because all the paper tags on the hoses and things are completely disintegrated. I dont think anything is leaking at all. Other than that fitting for 1 year and 4 months. Losing oil in between oil changes for all this time. | |||||
