I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport with the 3.6l engine, automatic transmission and it has 90,000 miles.
I have an issue that only happens the first time I start for the day and put it into REVERSE. After I drive for a while I no longer have the issue and the transmission seems to shift just fine. Performance is normal.
The scenario: I start the engine for the first time that day and let the idle settle. I put the transmission in REVERSE and it will bog and nearly (sometimes does) stall the engine. The only way I have been getting around this is to first put it in DRIVE for a few seconds then into REVERSE and it doesn't do it as much but it sure "pulls" hard into gear.
The odd thing is that once I start driving it seems just fine with normal performance for the rest of the day.
I took it to the dealership for this issue and they "flashed the TCU?" and did a transmissions fluid service. None of that helped, I still have the same problem. I'm hesitant to take it back to the dealership for obvious reasons.
I really hate this because the engine just purrs at idle, pulls strong and is just running great for 90k miles.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Jody.
Take the car to a transmission pro and have him check it out.
