292 Chevy

Howdy; Actually looking at a lobster boat that has a 292 chevy in it.  It was a later model engine if you need more info I should be able to get it this week. Hasn't been run for a couple years but was well taken care of.  Thoughts on the engine and any basic maintenance before I fire it up?  Old Fuel, Additives, Fuel filter, Plugs, etc?

Thanks and keep keeping it real.

Well those are pretty reliable engines I don't know much about boats myself especially lobster boats other than I watch them when I was on the East Coast

Thanks for the writeback.  Glad to hear the 292 was a reliable design.  Not sure if you have a tutorial for a sitting engine restart ie. Things to check: moisture in the gas, sludged up oil, spray wires with wire dryer, just a few tips before bringing life to a sitting engine.

On another note: My father had a 292 in his lobster boat and had a temp issue.  Keel pipes are used to help cool the engine by the seawater passing around them. They are basically pipes running through the hull and looping back to the engine. In his case the pipes were too short and cause engine heat up.

If you ever find yourself close to Marshal Point Lighthouse you're welcome to come by.

Thanks again.

Luke
