Hello,

I don't know whether you get these stories a lot on here.
But I have been watching a lot of Scottie's videos.
So happened to purchase this 2005 Toyota Avensis 2.0L petrol with 219K kms for 2K Euro a couple of months ago.
All this without consluting a trusty mechanic of his caliber.

Last week it started showing some weeknesses.
As in displaying the ABS light, Handbrake, TRC.
The fans for climate control ramped up and the console wasn't responding when turning it down.

Tonight I decided to go shopping and after shopping it would't start.
Lights were on but headlights were dimmed.
The starter would only go for half a second and then stop without even managing a crank.

So I waited for a while.
Made a phone call to road assistance.
Only to figure out that, help was too expensive.
After ending the phone call I tried cranking the car again and it started 1st try.

Since the car was running I drove home (20km).
After 10 km the headlights were really dim, the high beams also.
Few minutes later the dashboard died and the console.
But it was still running so I drove to a workshop near my house.

That was around 8pm to I'll have to contact the shop tomorrow morning.
What could the matter with the car?

I'm thinking alternator?

greetings to all who read and like <3

Likely the alternator quit charging. It maintains the power to the electrical system after the battery is used to start the vehicle.

Basically it was running on battery power alone. Everything in the vehicle was draining that power and no alternator action to recharge and maintain.

Charge the battery or replace it to get to shop. Its likely dead now. Vehicle won't run if battery gets so low it turns off computer.

Thank you for quick reply.
That does explain a lot.
We'll see tomorrow what needs to be done.
I will keep posting update.

Do you think I damaged anything by continuing to drive on low electrical power? Fuzes? Idk

Changing the alternator will fix all the issues. And no, you did not ruin anything by driving it under that condition.

Lucky me then. I sure hope it will go well Laughing Out Loud

So end of story.
I spent 500 euro on a refurbished alternator, the correct type car battery and a drive belt.
And the car is back to it good old self

Turns out someone had an underpowered battery installed before i bought it.
God knows what else they messed up xD

Btw one of the light bulbs of my headlights went out.
So I replaced right and left lightbulbs.
Now the beam of light has like a black spot, right in the direction of oncoming trafic.
Is that normal you think?
