| Answer to: Should I buy this used Civic | 9Relevance | 3 years ago | TheLandB4Tim | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Thanks for the responses. It was to my trusted mechanic and he was leaning towards no, but did say the car was in good shape otherwise The wear was due to age/use. Clear history report with no accidents. It would be both rear struts that would need replacement. I did see the kbb value around what you said too and agree, car prices are wack at the moment. Seller is firm at $11.8k. At 95k miles, it seems like it would probably have a lot of life left in it and I'm sure other vehicles of similar age/miles will probably have similar repair needs, so I might be b ... | |||||

| If all that's wrong with it is needing new front struts I would not consider that a reason to walk away as long as it's not due to collision damage. As far as whether the price is reasonable that's hard to say in this market. It seems high to me but kbb.com (Kelley Blue Book) pegs the value at around $11K-12K. | |||||

| Should I replace my timing belt | 9Relevance | 3 years ago | Pewky | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor that kbb says is worth about $1781 trade-in value. Private party $3852 (I would take that but that's probably unrealistic). The timing belt was replaced at 60,000 miles, I'm now at 129,900. Cost to replace $650+. Would you replace it or run it until it fails? It has an interference engine. | |||||

| Being sold by a dealer is a red flag. The outrageous price is even more of a strike against it, thousands of dollars above even Kelly Blue Book's inflated prices. | |||||

I only know about kbb and Carfax, but those unfortunately get skewed by the inflation unless I'm wrong Compact vs SUV's: Aside from size, any recommendations and why. I love how it drives though and my son drools over it. It wants to be loved and driven. How much is reasonable? Edmunds, kbb don't go that far back.

| @chucktobias Just curious if you know whether kbb has updated their valuation system (not sure the technical term for this) to reflect the current post-covid/ supply chain issues/ high inflation market? Because I checked Auto Trader and the prices for 1996 Camrys were in the same ballpark as this one and some with 2 and 3 times the miles. | |||||

| Private Party Used Cars | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | Themercurycougar | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... Should I wait or is the private party market not going to change much, or is now the time to buy. I was thinking at least for a Sequoia now might be better because gas is still high, but I wonder how inflated the price is. kbb says 4k to 6k and it's listed at 5800, I would try to get it down to 4k or less because it has some issues. What do y'all think? Thank you. | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy this 2013 Honda Civic? | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | Tierodend | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| kbb always quote a high price. The good news is the Civic is a very good choice but as others have said it’s a little overpriced but that’s the market right now and you always pay more from a dealership. Personally I would trawl places like Craigslist and FB marketplace but I have bought and sold a lot of cars. Try and source from a private sale, there are still bargains to be had. Or buy the Civic but make sure you get it thoroughly checked out, do not rely solely on CARFAX. Your idea of getting a mechanic to check it over is very wise. | |||||

| ... dealers, but they are generally more likely to come down. 4) Always get a mechanical inspection from a pro. No matter where you find the car, always ask yourself, “Why, really, is the owner getting rid of it?” Getting a fair deal means paying what the car is worth. It is worth what someone is willing to pay. What other people are willing to pay is tracked by services like kbb, Edmunds, NADA, and “Blackbook”. I am fully aware that those sources tend to favor sellers over buyers, and their data is a bit behind a rapidly changing market, they still can g ... | |||||

The shop that i bring it to says that its the Torque Converter and your better off with a remanufactured transmission all the way around. The whole job would run about 5500$. Problems also are; A/C clutch is starting to go out from the sound that it makes occasionally when on but still works and blows cold. | 2014 Ford Focus SE "dual clutch transmission" issues - horrible shuddering. | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | V98 | Submit Your Question HERE
| ... Ford dealership told me that while its not the TCM, it is instead the dual clutch assembly. They are saying it is close to $2200 in repairs and we just do not want to pay that. They also said that the fuel induction kit needs to be replaced and that is nearly $1400. Nah. What sucks is the car is in "great condition" other than these two problems. It only has 105,500 miles on it, and it was originally a fleet car from my mother which we bought off of her works auction lot (switched cars). We are now aware that both have had warranty extensions or recalls ... | |||||
| Answer to: Did I get a good deal out of my 2006 Dodge Charger? | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | Dad2LM2 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Welcome new member! That's fairly low miles, but a lot of age. The older cars get, the less you can give them a general "value". I mean, you could look it up on kbb or NADA and get some arbitrary $XX value (I would guess will be <$13k). But the true value will be much more dependent on things like maintenance. [A 2-year-old civic is = to another 2-year-old civic, regardless of maintenance. But not so with a 16-year-old Dodge.] It also depends on the engine. I'm not a Charger expert, but seems like the R/T comes with the Hemi V8... is that right, ... | |||||
