| Answer to: Ecoboost engine opinions | 20Relevance | 6 years ago | bullrider | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... bearings, sufficient cooling and lubrication, all those things. Sure that same engine would last longer if you didn't put the turbo on it, and a V8 engine will last longer if you lower the compression to 6:1. The EcoBoost engines Ford puts in their F150's were all designed from the ground up to be turbocharged. The Ford GT version of the 3.5 EcoBoost puts out 647 hp in the Ford GT... if it can handle that level of power, then the 375 hp my F150's engine puts out is not likely to overtax it. Main bearings and rod bearings only know how much force is being pu ... | |||||
| 1997 Ford Ranger coolant temp needle doesn’t move | 20Relevance | 4 years ago | Ranger Owner | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 1997 Ford ranger XLT Extended Cab 2WD. The coolant temperature needle will not move off cold. I have replaced the sensor three times. One with Ford OEM from the dealer. One from Rock Auto, one from Auto Zone. All three sensors registered different ohm resistance. I have replaced the temperature sender as well. the original sensor was a one pin connector. The Ford replacement had a two pin connector that I had to ground. Everything works from the connector to the gauge. I forced grounded it and the needle when to the top of hot. I changed the thermos ... | |||||
| Answer to: are fords reliable | 20Relevance | 4 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Depends, honestly. Modern Ford products? Unless you're talking about the F-250 and above, no, they're not reliable. Most are made overseas. The F-150 is made in the US, unlike the 1500 Silverado, but they've had problems with the 10-speed they jointly developed with GM and have class action suits against them for it. Considering they put a 2.7L turbo V6 in a full size truck as a base engine, they wear out quickly. That engine is smaller than my ranger's 3.0, and it's in a compact truck. Ford vehicles around the turn of the millennium were probably as re ... | |||||
| Answer to: Automatic low mileage Ranger | 16Relevance | 4 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The old generation ranger automatics are decent. I would take that truck to a mechanic to make sure that is actually the mileage it has been driven. If that's the real mileage, 12,800 miles is hardly broken in. My 1999 ranger V6 4×4 went 250,000 miles on an untouched automatic transmission before it needed rebuilt. I bought it 2 years ago and had it rebuilt shortly after. The 2010 trucks have the same transmission as my '99, it has been slightly updated to a 5-speed, not a 4-speed. Take care of that transmission and do fluid changes every 30k to 60k miles and it will last a good while. | |||||
| Answer to: Durango or Ranger | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Do you want a truck or an SUV? That's what you need to decide. I have a 1999 ranger with 271k and the 3.0 V6 runs like a top. The ranger will probably outlast that Durango. A good bit of those trucks dates to the 1980s and they were updated to be more computerized, rather than scrapping the designs and starting over every 4 years. For both vehicles, the weak point will be the automatic transmission. Have a mechanic check out the one you want. | |||||
| Answer to: I’m getting a base model 2022 Ford Maverick. Am I making a mistake? | 20Relevance | 5 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Yes, practically nothing Ford makes in Mexico has any quality whatsoever. The Mach-E "Mustang" had a recall issued yesterday I believe for poor windshield adhesion. Take a guess where they're made. The Bronco "Sport" is also made there and they're being recalled for stuff as well. If they can't glue a windshield into a car properly, why anybody would trust that they can assemble wheel bearings or final drive gears for an electric car correctly is beyond me. I'm a Ford guy, but these new Ford products are shameful. If you want a small Ford truck, I might ... | |||||

| 2008 Ford ranger XL Visit link: Mr. Scotty Kilmer always recommends getting a two (2) wheel drive car coupled staying away from certain motors and years. With this said, I wanna ask the car experts if this would be a good truck to purchase! Im looking at a 2008 Ford ranger XL Truck, with a 2.3L 4 Cylinders engine, RWD, with 166,265 miles! I need something that that is going to last and is dependable, would this truck be a good option? I just need a daily driver, that will last! i dont care about towing capacity, the MPG seems alright | |||||
| Answer to: Buy 2000 RAV4 or 1999 Ranger? | 19Relevance | 4 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... models. I have a 1999 ranger 3.0 4x4 with 288k miles, I drive the heck out of it. I bought it at 251k three years ago. Vehicles this old and that low mileage won't take well to being driven 15-20k a year without stuff breaking. They're not "used" to being used. Stuff rots, breaks down, etc. when cars sit. The Toyota is more apt than the Ford to start driving like there's no tomorrow. @chucktobias is spot on, the Rav4 probably doesn't have rust issues by that time, but the rangers do. They're prone to similar frame rotting issues that plagued the Tacoma ... | |||||
| Possible Engine Problem with 2005 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 Automatic Transmission | 19Relevance | 3 years ago | DanEisenmenger | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey Scotty Been working on my 4v6 Ford ranger Edge 2005 with automatic transmission. Did not notice anything serious right until now. So, based on a gauge it takes a long time(10+ mins) for the truck to warm up(first start only). A lot of white smoke and condensation is coming out of the tailpipe. So, it gave me a suspicion that there is a coolant is mixed with combustion gases. Another thing I looked at was an oil filler cap. There was a white sludge under it. Pulled out a dipstick, and the oil is still clean. No funny smells from the exhaust pipe. The tr ... | |||||

| Hello I have 2002 ranger edge 3.0 216k miles. I've been having a sputtery engine at idle and a weird jerking/sputter on first startup when I tap on the gas. I was going about 30 mph then slowing down to turn. All the sudden I lost power steering and power. The engine completely cut off. The ranger started right back up. What could this be? | |||||

| Ford Ranger shifting issues | 15Relevance | 2 years ago | Chad_Andre080 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey y’all, I have a 2011 Ford ranger single cab I4 automatic with 113k miles on it, and I’m having shifting issues. When I unplug the battery for a little while, those problems go away for the day or sometimes even a whole week. Recently, it shifts into what feels like neutral instead of 3rd gear, and it slams into 4th if I gas it hard enough. I’m guessing this means the shifting solenoid has gone bad in the valve body, but I wanted a second opinion since I don’t have any codes to go off of at the moment. If I need to get a whole new valve body, should I go ... | |||||
| Answer to: 99 Ford Ranger Brake Bleeding After Replacing Corroded Line | 19Relevance | 4 years ago | czi50agjb8wa | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... 4x, didn't completely bleed, but got lucky & the air eventually escaped to the reservoir. Brake bleeding with a buddy didn't work either. I've tried several OBD scanners that supposedly can do ABS brake bleeding: Innova 5160, Topdon ArtiDiag800BT, Xtool A30M & Autel AP200, but none of them could do that on a 1999 Ford ranger XLT 2WD. I asked & researched before using the Xtool & Autel, both said it can but failed. I'm starting to doubt coverage checkers for other makers. What would be the best bang OBD scanner with ABS brake bleeding for m ... | |||||
