Hey Scotty, huge fan but unfortunately I found your videos after I bought my truck. I have a 2011 Silverado LT 1500, 4wd, 5.3 V8, with 198,000 highway miles and of course the transmission was replaced at 160,000 miles. My problem right now is low oil pressure. It started after my last oil change, I usually do it myself, always use Mobil 1 full synthetic and a premium filter, but last month being that I live in NJ, we had a ton of snow so I brought it tire and auto place that I use on occasion. Now my check engine light is on and my oil pressure is 50 psi on a cold start up, then drops as the engine warms up, at operating temperature while driving it's around 20-30 psi the drops to about 10 psi at idle. I scanned it and the code is "P0521 oil pressure sensor/switch range/performance". I've already replaced the sensor with an OEM AC Delco sensor, swapped out the cheap NAPA oil filter for a premium filter, checked oil level, and added ATP AT-205 to the oil. Also I read online that these trucks are known for the O ring on the oil pick up tube going bad and to test for it by lifting the back end moves to the front of the pan, which I did but the pressure did not improve. I plan on doing an oil and filter change myself in the next few days in hopes that it's just an idiot in the shop used the wrong weight oil. I'd really appreciate your insight and wisdom on this, thanks. On a side note, I'm the 2nd owner, previous owner was the service manager at the Chevy dealer, and the truck has only ever had full synthetic oil in it.
Because the problem started after the oil change, I suspect it's something they did. I would put new oil+filter in there and see what happens. And see what it looks coming out (frothy, discolored etc.).
Here are other possibilities
• Oil pump worn or dirty
• Oil pump-to-engine block bolts loose
• Oil pump screen loose, plugged, or damaged
• Oil pump screen O-ring seal missing or damaged
• Malfunctioning oil pump pressure relief valve
• Excessive bearing clearance
• Cracked, porous, or restricted oil galleries
• Oil gallery plugs missing or incorrectly installed
• Broken valve lifters Repair as necessary.
I’d change the oil fresh again and see what happens. Had another guy on here had same issue, his oil was milky brown like coffee with creamer. He was getting coolant/water into his oil diluting it.
I have a similar situation. After I went to the Valvoline Oil Change center my oil pressure has never been right even after changing oil, filter(s), and oil pressure sensor. on a Buick Lesabre Custom.
