Tranny Codes 2005 Honda Odyssey

Scotty and his followers:

My 2005 Odyssey ended up parked in a puddle after a flash flood in Cranston RI in Sept 2023.   Water came up to level of the bottom of the battery but also got 2 inches of water inside the car/soaked carpets.  The car started in the puddle and I drove it home.  Took out all the seats / carpet and dried it good then a week later when all back together, it wouldn't start.  Starter was the Original and had 190K miles and was submerged under water so I put a new starter in (fired right up), drove the car for about 150 miles.  Then, a week later, I hear a thud, check engine light comes on and D flashes.  Used my scanner and pulled two codes P0980 & P0974 (Solenoid A and C).  I figured water may have damaged them.  First I cleaned the connections and viola the codes cleared but 8 miles later--> thud and the flashing D/CEL come on--> same codes.  Then I changed the solenoids with intermotor solenoids (not OEM Keihin).  Problem not solved.  Cleaned/checked the ground point (G151), checked all the fuses, no chewed up wires/rodents, pulled off all the solenoid electrical connections I could reach and sprayed them with brake cleaner (even though I did not appreciate any corrosion), Tranny fluid full and not adulterated by water (but I changed it out anyway) --> nothing.  Whenever I try to clear the codes, they clear for a second and pop right back on again without even starting the car.  So now I have a van with poor performance/pick up in D and D2.  Seems ok in D3 and I can even move it back into D once I hit about 20 MPH and seems fine (but D still ominously flashing).

The car is old / doesn't look great on the outside (Botched Honda Paint job) but has been reliable up till now and I like to use it to move things around that I can't fit in my car.  I may be at the end of my diagnostic abilities.  My thought is that this is related to the puddle but maybe the tranny just happened to quit coincidentally and these codes portend a larger problem.

Anything else you would recommend?  Or can you recommend a tranny shop here in the East Bay of RI?  Meanwhile am I harming the tranny if I start driving in D3 then throw it into D once I hit 20 as described above??

Any help appreciated

Dave

2005 was the worst year of the Odyssey ever. They had a very high rate of transmission failure. So it may have been caused by flood, but they were bad transmissions anyway.

If I were you, I would suck out a sample of the transmission fluid. Transmissions have vents, and if water got inside then the transmission is done.
