We’ve beat this topic into submission. Just do a search: Also, I own 2 GM vehicles that have been poo-pooed by Scotty and other mechanics but I’ve beaten the odds, yet I don’t question their assessment that GM quality is poor; I just statistically got good vehicles, nothing more. The brand still sucks, and I won’t buy GM anymore. Same applies to Hyundai Motor Group.

Please add a note mentioning that this applies mainly to Hyundai/Kia cars made in the US.
I'm getting more and more persuaded that US H/K factory was build on a cursed soil, since US-made cars are so much more problematic than ones made in any other place. 😀
Will do. Thanks for the feedback.
I can write up a small summary of the problems seen on H/K cars seen here in Russia, if you are interested, but like 95% of it will be centered on 2 things: very particular cylinder damage problem on Theta II and Nu engines (caused by 2 different reasons) and AWD system reliability issues.
Go ahead.. create your own post & write an article about it. You can warn other Russian members who may come here for advice.
You mean a new post like a new forum topic/question, or just an answer here in this topic?
Will do, thanks!
Is it OK if I add some YouTube links that show those issues and describe how to fix them? They're in Russian, but YT's auto-generated and translated subtitles feature might help, and even without any speech these are very detailed depictions of those problems and might give an idea of how to fix them.
Keep it clean & make sure it adheres to all forum rules.. And yeah, feel free to create your own question for it or post it as an answer in this thread.
@spijet
Sorry I was mistaken in my previous answer, some difficulty there. Since its still Hyundai, create it as a post on this thread or a seperate thread but linked on THIS thread is what is wanted by mod thrust.
'Please add a note mentioning that this applies mainly to Hyundai/Kia cars made in the US.'
Probably there is no significant difference in reliability in other parts of the world.
@G.T., there is. Almost all mass problems that happened with H/K vehicles in the US (at least those I know of) were caused by local production problems in the US H/K factories. Ones made in Korea and Slovakia (for European markets) are much more reliable. They have their own problems, of course, but these are completely different and most of the time caused by local car use habits.
The best example here is famous Theta II engine series. In the US, most problems with those are caused by faulty production issues (e.g. metal shavings left inside the engine block by the factory workers), while in Europe there are 2 kinds of problems: faulty oil pumps on 2.4L engines and cylinder "scratches" on MPI 2.0L engines. The latter is partially caused by people using too-thick motor oil during winter here in Russia, which results in the engine starting up without proper lubrication.
